Everyone knows Michigan State can play defense. They were No. 1 in the Big Ten and No. 4 nationally in total defense giving up only 16 points per game last year. The big question for the Spartans is can the offense "Cowboy Up" and score some points. During 2012, they only averaged 20 points per game (10th Big 10 and 108th nationally) and put the defense in too many bad/difficult situations.
Michigan State (7-6) lost 5 games by 4 points or less last year. They also won 4 games by 4 points or less...not much margin for error. They return with 16 starters including 5th year senior QB Andrew Maxwell and 7 on what should be another outstanding defense. Will the D have to carry this team again this season...probably...or they may lose five games by a total of 13 points again like last year.
