I've been doing it for 6 years now.

We all have our own recipes for how we get to our numbers, I'm curious, anyone else here create a set?

I've long used a combination of returning offensive production/returning defensive production/, a few years ago I added OL experience/coaching evaluations/QB projections...

The obvious fault/hiccup are my coaching and QB projections. They are too subjective for my taste, nonetheless, I still use them because I am convinced a 2-3 year returning starting QB is much more valuable than a kid who hasn't started before. I recognize that Manziel is an outlier here, he is not the norm.

So, for those of you who create numbers, what variables do you focus on?

I probably consider too many variables/stats, and am considering cutting down. That said, here's what I use:

    (for/against)
    YPPlay
    YPPoint
    Rush YPC
    Pass YPA
    3rd Down %
    Sacks/game

    also
    Defensive plays/TD
    Opponent's PPPlay
    Special teams
Experience (overall but weight OL, QB experience more)

I don't mean any offense by this, but are you really saying that you use all of these previous year's stats too set your relative strengh ratings?

No, I do not use prior year. I [attempt to] project this season. Previous year is relevant to that and often a useful starting point, but obviously, in college sports the amount of turnover means that you can't assume that last year's stats will maintain this year.

You're the biggest fuking loser on this site.

            Keep betting on intuition.

If you don't understand how an algorithm can give you an edge, then god help you. It explains why you lose so much.

I make a deal with you.

I will go head-head to you in any contest you want.

You won't pay when you lose.

            How about this idea too.

Let's keep the childish yapping out of the subforums? Okay? I got warned about it already, and I have no interest in polluting this board with a war with you. I am on the Saloon enough for you to yap.

I basically do the same thing that Biff does. I use last year's power rating as a starting point and adjust from there. Sometimes it is amazing how right or wrong you can be.
