    More Bad News for Georgia
The Georgia defense, reduced to just about nothing this season, suffered another major hit in the backfield when CB Reggie Wilkerson blew out a knee. He is not expected to return this season. Wilkerson, a true Freshman, was expected to start at one of the CB positions. This is the 2nd potential starter in the UGA defensive backfield that will not be around for game 1 against Clemson. Starting CB Josh Harvey-Clemons has been suspended for the Clemson game. How good does Clemson +3 look now?

Yeah, tough break for the young man because he had a chance to play some this season. Actually, he was not the starter but a backup to junior Damian Swann.

What does offer a problem against Clemson is the suspension of safety Harvey-Clemons. Junior Corey Moore will have to step up for this game as his replacement.

With these two secondaries....there's going to be a lot of passing yards in this game...especially with Murray and Boyd tossing it all over the place.

He was one of SIX freshmen DB's they were bringing in this season. He wasn't a starter, just in the rotation. Does stink that he's out but not like they are hurting for depth there even missing those two players.

They really didn't have a spot determined for Harvey-Clemons yet. Last I heard he was going to be a hybrid type playing safety and LB.

Remember the name Jordan Jenkins. He is the next Jarvis Jones/Justin Houston

Wilkerson had knee surgery on Friday. He will also have to have a second procedure done at a later date. He will be medically redshirted this season and have four years of eligibility left.

Dane, you are right on about LB Jordan Jenkins (6-3, 260). He was second on the team in sacks last year as a freshman. He and fellow LB Amario Herrera (6-2, 248) are going to give the Dawgs two solid backers this season.

UGA's defense is a disaster. It will take 4 weeks to get it organized, and they play some very tough games during that stretch.

Georgia's defense sucked last year. They couldn't stop anyone from running on them. It will be a fresh restart

Highly unlikely. This is the time of year when all the homers come out and tell us how great all of the newcomers are. The problem is that these newcomers have not played one single minute in college, so NO ONE knows how good or bad they may be. It will take some time to find out, and by that time, UGA could be finished, as far as a NC contender is concerned. The offense had better score just about every time they have the ball because the defense is going to give up a ton of points.

So you are going to fade Clemson at home. The same Clemson team that defeated LSU in a Bowl Game last season. Georgia has ZERO on Defense. They lose two starters in the secondary. Tajh Boyd is going to have a field day with this defense. UGA rarely wins in South Carolina, and has South Carolina, the University, next up at home. Now personally I hope that UGA wins this game, but as a gambler, you have to really stretch to wager on them unless you can get 3.5 points or more.

I dont think Clemson's Defense is in much better shape. If the total is under 100, take the over

I think it'll wind up around 45-38, but that should still be an easy over.

What You Need To Know: Well, that didn’t work. There were a lot of individual talents on the 2012 Georgia defense, but as a unit they struggled to play consistently at a high level. Thus, the season’s performance was hit or miss, especially during the first half. The defense seemed to come together a bit after the Florida win, but that likely had just as much to do with the easy competition up to the title game. Given the talent on the Bulldogs’ defensive roster last year, finishing twelfth in the conference in rushing defense was simply inexcusable. And yet, Georgia was still just a stone’s throw away from beating Alabama for the title. Consistency is just as important as run defense, and the Dawgs must achieve this with only “three” starters returning for 2013. Fortunately for Georgia and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, the cupboards are stocked with all the talent a coach and fan base could want. Given that Georgia’s offense will be even more potent this season, its defense needs only moderate improvement – but they’ll have to do it with several players still wet behind the ears. How green are they, really?
