CFB Independents - All 7 of them

Who are the football Independents with no conference affiliation going into the 2013 season? Army, BYU, Idaho, Navy, New Mexico State, Old Dominion and Notre Dame are the independents going into this season. Old Dominion will go to Conference USA as a fulltime member next season, and New Mexico State will go to the Sun Belt. Navy is gone to the AAC in 2015, and Army could end up following in the near future. New Mexico State is gone to the Sun Belt, while Idaho is likely to find a home someday either in the Mountain West or Sun Belt. BYU could end up in the Big 12 at best, but likely will end back to a stronger Mountain West someday. Notre Dame eventually/likely will marry its football program to the ACC, far, far down the road.

I've got an idea...why don't the independents form their own league and call it the Independent Conference. Just kidding!

Beware of the Independents

Before you jump out there and slap a dollar, nickel or dime on one of these Independent teams, it might be worth your while to do some solid research. Last year Independents were a big time money burner. Taking a look at their 2012 regular season won/loss and against the spread records.

App St and Ga Southern will be in this group in 2 years, I think, before moving to the Sun Belt. Many of your D1 powers since 1990 are starting to move up.
