    Penn State Quarterback Transfers
Former Penn State quarterback Steven Bench has picked a new school as his transfer destination. Bench announced he will attend and play football for South Florida. He had narrowed his choices down to Mississippi State, North Carolina State and South Florida. Because of Penn State's NCAA penalties, he will be elgible to play immediately.

South Florida has a new coach in Willie Taggart (Western Kentucky) and is looking for a new starting quarterback with the graduation of BJ Daniel. Good opportunity for the kid and now he has to prove he can play.

I don't know all the details but the transfer seems like a strange move to me. Bench was the only returning QB on Penn State's roster after Rob Bolden transferred to LSU and starter Matt McGloin graduated. He was battling junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson for the top spot throughout the spring.

Penn State now has Ferguson, prize recruit Christian Hackenburg and two freshman walk-on players competing for the position. Maybe he didn't like the coach or maybe the school or maybe the competition...just don't know.

    Welcome any comments..................

I got an email from an old friend in Pittsburgh who said the reason Bench was so anxious to get out of town was because of incoming 5 star recruit Christian Harkenburg. Harkenburg was rated the second best pro-style quarterback in the nation out of high school behind only Max Browne (USC). He and Browne were the only 5-star rated quarterbacks according to Rivals.

Just thought it was strange for Bench to want to bail Penn State with the opportunity he had to start. Maybe we know why now.
