Tired of people bashing the BIG 10

with so many people having a bias due to the school/conference they root for, I will try to break this down.....

yes, big 10 historically SUCKS in bowl games, and this year is no exception...1-4 or whatever so far this year.

I love when people try to explain the reason for this ....
OOOH BIG 12 JUST HAS TOO MUCH TALENT.....
OOOOOH SEC has TOO MUCH SPEED....
OOOOH BIG 10 FOCUSES ONLY ON DEFENSE

Want to know the real reasons? I'll give you two SOLID reasons why BIG 10 sucks in bowl games, leading to the perception they are a weak conference overall.

Let's look at the PENN STATE/USC "ROSE BOWL" aka the "USC BOWL"

Penn State's last game? Nov. 22nd
USC's last game? December 6th


Penn State - Northeast team, majority of their games played in weather below 40 degrees, often with rain/snow/wind


USC - West coast team, majority of their games played in good weather/dome


Bottom line,
BIG 10 schedule finishes at LEAST 1-2 weeks ahead of every other conference.

BIG 10 play a majority of their games in crappy conditions, forcing them to create more of a ground it out, good defense type of team

Since most bowl games occur in late december in warm weather environments, big 10 teams are forced to play in conditions they are not accustomed to, sometimes with EVEN MORE THAN A MONTH OF LAYOFF TIME!!!! If you have half a brain you will realize these factors, and laugh when people say a "conference" has speed. those comments are laughable, IMO.....

And USC doesn't deserve to even be a BCS championship THOUGHT. they had a loss to one of the crappiest teams in Division I football, and the rest of their schedule was cupcake...

dude, get off USC's jock. they won a home game, with a 75% fan base, in conditions they are used to, with less of a layoff.

if your entire response to my argument is that Oregon State is good, well Penn State crushed them and USC lost.

and btw, USC didn't "shit on" penn state, they got ahead and barely held onto the game. and they beat an OSU team ON THE ROAD, MISSING THEIR KEY PLAYER with a FRESHMAN QB playing his first game. come stronger than that man....

As a Husker fan...... we used to cry about having to play Miami or Florida State in the Orange bowl every year. Back in the day..... the Big 8 was locked into the Orange bowl. So every year Nebraska would have a good team..... then go to the Orange bowl and get beat by these FAST Florida teams. We would whine and cry about how if they came to Nebraska and played in the cold and snow we would win. Then one day Coach Osborne met with Bobby Bowden. Bowden told Osborne that you need SPEED to win. It's great to have these big corn fed linemen but you need speed. So Nebraska went out and got speed! The final 4 seasons of Osbornes coaching career the Huskers went 49-2.... winning 3 National Championships and beating both Miami (24-17) and Florida (62-24).

My point is this. The Big Ten DOES suck. They have not had a quality win..... since..... I dont know.

Personally, I think Husker is spot on about Nebraska and speed.

And anyone who underestimates Nebraska in the future does so at their peril. that is one of the truly great programs - as dominant in the 70s and 90s as any program in history. Pelini will bring them back.

(Not a Husker BTW; just know a great program when I see it.)

First of all, Carroll is a class act. Obviously, you didn't watch that 60 minutes interview on Pete Carroll. Go watch it online or something. Second of all, USC completely dominated the Rose Bowl. If you watched the game, you would have known that the score wasn't an indicator of Penn State almost beating USC. Thirdly, does it really matter if USC was virtually playing a home game? Is that the only excuse you have to bash on USC just because they were the better team that day?

I'm pretty sure the speed last night in OSU vs. Texas was not the factor in the game's decision.....
just ask any defender who tried to cover OSU's QUARTERBACK!!! what a joke....announcer calls out the play and he still had the defender by about 2 feet or so.

so, "the kid" judges a football coach based on a 60 minutes interview but does not take home field advantage and fair weather conditions into play???? dude you realize this is a handicapping site????
the refs gave the 1st half to USC, if you were watching....I'm not making excuses it was clear who they wanted to win the game....
