    Oregon State Quarterback Battle
The Beavers return most of their core players from last season's nine-win season. Fifteen starters return including 8 on offense and 7 on defense. The big question for the Oregon State faithful is who will start at quarterback? Coach Mike Riley plans to pick a starter...either junior Sean Mannion or senior Corly Vaz the week before the first game.

Mannion took over as starter two games into his redshirt freshman season in 2011. He was named Freshman All-American after passing for 3,328 yards and 16 touchdowns. During 2012, he suffered a knee injury in the fourth game requiring surgery and began the competition with Vaz. Both players had good spring practices that will now carry over into the fall.

    2012 Stats:
    Mannion (6-5, 212) 200 of 309 for 2446 yards and 15 touchdowns.
    Vaz (6-1, 200) 109 of 185 for 1480 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Sidenote: Oregon State was 19th nationally in passing yards last year but a pitiful 101st in rushing yards.

    2013 Schedule:
Eastern Washington, Hawaii, @ Utah, @ San Diego St., Colorado, @ Washington St., @ Cal, Stanford, USC, Washington, @ Oregon

Looking at Oregon State's schedule, I'm thinking the Beavers could easily start the season 7-0. Then all hell breaks loose the next five game stretch. Brutal might be a good adjective with Stanford, Southern Cal, Arizona State, Washington and Oregon. Winning two of those five might be considered a success. Getting off to a fast start will be key to another successful 9 win season in my opinion.

Settling on a quarterback and replacing two defensive tackles will also be a key.............
