Who knows. It's not out of the realm of possibility until you get that first loss.I'm definitely shooting to go undefeated.Highly unlikely, but like I said, until I get that first loss.Lets get it guys.I'm not going to be throwing a bunch of stats and trend numbers up as this is bowl time and I'm just not a trend guy as different teams go to different bowls each year although some trends are impressive.I look a lot at strength of schedules and conference strength vs conference strength. So far I have 5 sides and 4 totals.I haven't capped the whole board yet but thought I would post what I have came up with so far.I also look for matchup advantages. Here they are:
RICE-3 over W-Michigan
First of all,Rice is playing in their backyard here.Secondly,W-Michigan cannot defend the pass whatsoever and I see Clement and Dillard having a monster game and going out with a bang as seniors in front of a predominantly Rice crowd.W-Mich will score, but Rice gets the necessary stops to widen the spread.
LATECH+1.5 over NIllinois
Another one in a teams backyard.Shreveport LA.Not much to say here except I don't understand why NILL is the favorite.Nill is poor against the pass but descent against the run.LA Tech throws it all over the place. The reasoning here is the same for Rice.
NCSt+7 over Rutgers
This to me is actually one of the most intriging games on the board. Both teams come into this game red hot. This to me is a tossup where I see that getting 7 points is a luxury.I see NCst getting lots of pressure on Mike Teel and forcing him back into making those bad decisions that he was making before they hit the weak part of their schedule(ARMY-LVILLE-SFLA)I definitely am not sold on the Rutgers defense as I see NCST moving the ball pretty much at will here.I have much more confidence in the ACC team here.Granted, the ACC isn't power strong, but they are tough top to bottem as they don't have a breather like the big East gets.Strength of Conf and matchup advantages on defense get the Wolfpack the straight up win.
Kansas-10.5 over Minnesota
Speed is the rule in this selection along with a huge matchup advantage in the playmaker department.Big 12 vs Big 10.Todd Reesing has a big advantage of the QBs in this game. Not much more to say other than that the Gophers just can't keep up with the Jayhawks as they pour it on.Strength of schedule is important to me here as well as the fact that KU is coming into this game off a huge win vs MIZZOU coupled with the fact that Minn will have not played a game in nearly 2 months.A KU BLOWOUT!
Alabama-10.5 over Utah
Basically a home game for the Tide.SEC vs MTN WEST.The brutal, physical style of play wears down the Utes in the 2nd half as the Tide breaks the spirit of a charged up Utah team.Bama shows the UTES the power of the big boys and show that they don't belong on the same field.TIDE ROLLS!(In the 2nd half)
TOTALS:::
USC-PENNSt under the 45
A classic defensive struggle here.USC hasn't really clicked on all cylinders offensively this year but that defense, man, that defense.I also think the approach that Joe Pa will take here will help this stay under the total as he takes a page from OreSt and tries to pound the ball up the middle with Royster and he tries to keep the game plan relatvely simple for Clark with a lot of screens and safe plays. In short,Joe Pa tries to keep this one close and tries to steal it in the 4th quarter. The PennSt defense has a edge here IMO against the USC offense.Very similar to the PennSt-OhioSt game
BallSt-Tulsa over the 77
This will be the funnest game to watch IMO.Defense?Where are they?Offense a plenty.I see 50 points by halftime in this one as the coaches really empty out the playbooks and put on a show.Another important factor. Both Davis and Johnson are prone to turnovers.I see offensive TDS,Special team TDS,and defensive Tds.I usually don't take high totals, but this at 77 is a gift IMO.
Iowa-SCARO under the 43
Wheres the offense going to come from?I see this as a battle of field position and FGs.Spurrier and the Gamecock defense will shut down the running game of Green and the Hawkeyes but Ferrins will keep trying since he doesn't trust Stanzi. In probably the shortest game of the bowls, lots of running and a rather boring game to watch as I see this actually having a hard time getting out of the 20s.
Doing more work and will post some other games soon.
Georgia-7.5 over MichSt
Major mismatch here guys. All I can say is SPEED-SPEED-and more SPEED.The Bulldogs will load the box and completely shut down Ringer.Stafford and Co. will have a huge day against a Spartan defense which frankly sux pretty bad.
RICE-3 over W-Michigan
