Kirk Ferentz is one of the higher paid college football coaches in the country. Many Hawkeye faithful are beginning to believe they are not getting their money's worth. During the past 3 seasons, he has led Iowa to a 19-19 record. The alarming fact is the steady decline in wins. 8-5 during 2010, 7-6 in 2011, and 4-8 last year.
This year's signing class is not good timing for a turnaround with the 10th rated class in the Big Ten. The timing for a below average recruiting class couldn't come at a worst time.
Iowa had a seemingly easy schedule last year and didn't do anything with it. This season's schedule will be more difficult, especially the second half games. The Hawkeye's will get Ohio State and Wisconsin from the Leaders Division. Add Michigan State, Northwestern, Michigan and Nebraska from their own division plus having to travel to Iowa State and Ferentz is facing possibly another losing season.
My guess is the downward spiral continues......and $3.65 million starts to really bother some key people around the program.
