Back in the early 1980's I wrote a letter to then Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz and received a personal response from him that answered all the questions I asked. Not a form letter, a personally signed letter on Notre Dame stationery. I really appreciated that and will always be a Holtz fan because of it.

Contrast that with then Nebraska coach "Saint" Tom Osborne who I wrote a complimentary letter to and received no response. As I lived in Nebraska and was then a Cornhusker backer I resented the slight. I have never forgotten it that and it diminished him in my mind forever after.

It's interesting how little things like that make such a lasting impression. There is a moral to this story but I'm sure you don't need it explained.
