BYU could've just taken knees at the goal line but they lined up for a run for TD after the almost 1st down that was called back on that FG drive.

there were about 10 things at the end that made zero sense

byu didn't kick a field goal in the 3rd, but they did in the 4th rather than go for it again

punting made no sense, but the BYU returner deliberately muffed it.

and then to remove any doubt, Idaho kicks a field goal when down by 42 points.
