There was one scheduled doubleheader last year (Angels at Athletics, July 16, 2011), but I think that was the first scheduled doubleheader since 1995.

Yep, doubleheaders on most Sundays and holidays, and they were real doubleheaders, not the split-gate type.

How is this the first double header in Arizona history? Just because of the roof? It rains like crazy in that city.

                FWIW,

it is a write in game at the casino's board I'm looking at.

you are saying it was scheduled before the season started?

Hmm. It is NOT a makeup doubleheader of a rainout so I just assumed it was scheduled. But you are right, if that was the case, it would have consecutive rotation numbers. Now I am stumped.

Yeah, because of the roof. I wouldn't say it rains like crazy here, although we did get a massive storm last night.

It'd take some pretty stupid people to have a rain out with a roofed stadium. And Arizona has NEVER not had a roofed stadium.

When I was a little kid, I got to see a doubleheader on a Friday night.
I don't remember much of the games, but I remember how awesome that felt to get to see 2 games right after each other. Best live baseball experience I've ever had for sure.

I kinda wish that they would do that some more but they won't. They are fun as hell as a fan.

The brought forward the scheduled game for tomorrow to make it a double header tonight, otherwise Arizona would end up with a stretch of more than 20 days of games without a day off...
