Were there pointspreads in MLB?

I was reading a book about successful gamblers, to include Billy Walters and Chip Reese - they made millions from baseball, and I'm guessing they were using spreads. Because of them I suspect that is why there no longer are point spreads in baseball (?)

billy walters made all his money on moving the lines, it had nothing to do with sports
