St. Louis Cardinals Land in a Run-Scoring Situation Sunday
It wouldn't hurt if Albert Pujols decided to play one more game for the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, considering he's 22 for 39 (.564) in his career versus Chicago Cubs SP Paul Maholm, but we'll move on without him:

    • St. Louis has averaged 7.58 runs per game when facing left-handed starters in 12 daytime contests this year, scoring five or more runs in every game except one (three against the Pirates). It's important to note that the Cards scored two runs in the first inning of that affair.
    • Maholm has been victimized in two of those aforementioned contests, with the Cardinals scoring 17 combined runs (7, 10)
    • The Cubs left-hander has made four career starts in umpire Mike Winters strike zone, allowing 20 earned runs in 24 innings of work (7.49 ERA, 5 HR)
    • Cardinals SS Rafael Furcal will be out of the lineup for a second straight day, which hurts due to his .360 average (9 for 25) in matching up against the southpaw, but went just 1 for 6 from the plate in the earlier two meetings in 2012

Sports bettors have the green light in playing the OVER on the team total, as long as the usual suspects are in the lineup Sunday, which should happen due to the Cardinals having an off day on Monday

Lineup looks good enough for me (Over 4): Descalso SS, Craig RF, Holliday LF, Beltran CF, Molina C, Freese 3B, Carpenter 1B, Greene 2B, (Wainwright P)

You may be right - BUT:

Cardinals are the best daytime hitting team in baseball (.279), while also pacing the majors with a .284 average against southpaws

i grew up with paul maholm and hes flat garbage since playing at miss state... he has had some luck with the trade to the cubs but that wears off today he faced the cardinals several times before so the batters wont be seeing anything knew. Good Luck

Nice info Jeff! The Cardinals are 11-1 (9-3 RL) in this situation a well, with an average line of -151 and margin of victory of 3.5 runs. Only loss coming to Bedard on May 3rd. The over is 9-3, with an average total of 8.4 going over by an average of 3.2 runs a game.

                I'll ride with you!

Ya...surprised Pinny is staying on that number - now that they moved the game total from 7.5 to 8

I hate playing totals because I never and I mean never win with them. This one looked solid and took the over. And there is 2 runs total in the 5th. Par for the course.

STL still has a chance at the win if they can hold here in 8th.
