    Thursday's hot picks

    Pirates FF +224
It's hard to find any fault with Oswalt nowadays. However, every pitcher has his Achilles' heel and that could come in the shape of the Pirates. The last time Oswalt faced the Pirates, he took the loss after allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits over 6 innings. To help our cause, Duke is 1-0 vs. the Astros. Duke tossed a shut-out in his last outing and we don't expect him to deteriorate suddenly. Since we look forward to a fine outing from Duke, and for the Pirates to constitute Oswalt's Achilles' heel once more, let's go with the FF upset.

    Padres +105
Giants are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
Giants are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in San Diego.
Giants are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in San Diego.
Giants are 1-8 in Cains last 9 starts vs. Padres.
Giants are 1-4 in their last 5 during game 1 of a series.
Giants are 1-5 in their last 6 road games.

Remark: This game is a toss up and there isn't much in favor of the Padres here, but since Cain is 1-8 against the Padres, one looks for that trend to continue tonight.

    Other recommended plays
These won't count in the hot picks record because they are at less than even value, but one recommends them because they look bankable.

    Brewers/Phillies FF Under 4.5 (-120)
Under is 4-0 in Sheets' last 4 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance.
Under is 6-1 in Sheets' last 7 starts overall.
Under is 5-0 in Moyers last 5 Thursday starts.
Under is 5-1 in Moyers last 6 starts overall.
Under is 4-0 in Sheets' last 4 road starts vs. Phillies.
Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Philadelphia.

One is recommending the Under in the FF for fear of late inning runs.

    Indians -110
Indians are 10-1 in their last 11 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
Indians are 12-2 in their last 14 road games vs. a team with a losing record.
Indians are 13-3 in their last 16 road games.
Indians are 4-1 in their last 5 Thursday games.
Indians are 4-1 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
Orioles are 1-4 in their last 5 Thursday games.
Orioles are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Orioles are 3-13 in their last 16 games following a loss.
Orioles are 2-9 in their last 11 home games.
Orioles are 2-9 in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
Orioles are 3-14 in their last 17 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Orioles are 1-10 in their last 11 when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Remark: The evidence is overwhelming. Don't miss this one. Jackson gets his first win for the Indians tonight.

The Royals have set the pace. Look forward to the Pirates to follow the Royals' footsteps.
