"Letting" a team take the series that will have essentially NOT played their hardest and STILL been able to snap off 5 straight games, 6 of 7, and THEN have to right the ship by THEN having to play with everything on the line... All to knock out the hated Red Sox...

    I'm not buying it...

The only angle I see which comes from the result of clinching the best AL record is that Girardi is shuffling around his bullpen against the Rays to see what he's got in regards of the postseason roster.. and we would assume all other teams in contention are playing their hardest

tampa needs 10 more fans in the stands for a total of 11. big push tonight with free tickets and free beach sand for life so they should get it.

What I'm saying by the implication of NYY not playing their hardest, is that Tampa will "play their hardest" (At least in the Bartolo Colon sense of the word), but it will be far less of an effort with a reduced lineup... They won't have to expend as much energy based on a motivated Yankee team...

Not at all saying they won't try hard...

No yankee fan in their right mind wants to see Tampa.

Tampa's pitching is head and shoulders better than the Yanks. Yanks want to see Boston who has no pitching right now. Either way, I'd be surprised to see 2 AL East teams in the ALCS

The reason I said what I said in the thread title is because I read all sorts of stories about "Joe from the Bronx" saying that he would rather see the sox out, then beat up on Tampa...

That's where it hit me that these people are idiots... Beat up on Everyone when you can... ESPECIALLY the team that you could potentially be playing in 4 days... Why would you WANT to give them any added incentive...

It's not like football where you can just toss in a bum lineup the last game and play the backup QB... baseball doesn't quite work the same based on routine.. scheduling... days rest etc... at least in my opinion... letting a team beat on you for a series even though you "took the series off" doesn't seem to translate well... well.. maybe if you are the Philies...

yanks are letting some of the older guys relax a bit. its the right thing to do. its not the yanks problem that boston is in a predicament.

Not saying you shouldn't take it easy after a 162 game season...

But I'm just saying that the perception from Yankee Fans is to lose, JUST to kick out the Sox... Fk momentum... and Despite them having the advantage in the first round, I would hate to give a team a 5 game winning streak going into a 5 game series...

As a Yankee fan I am fairly certain that the Yankee's goal is for Tampa and Boston to have to play the tiebreaker game tomorrow. With that said, I would much rather face the Red Sox than the Rays at this point, especially if Matt Moore is going to be Tampas #4 starter in the postseason. As fun as it is to see Boston fail, I really hope they win the WC.

If the Rays get in, they'll get to the World Series.

All we know today is that TB will be playing like there's no tomorrow with their ace on the hill. I hate that the ML is -260... But the Rays arent losing this one. And not because the Yankees are 'letting' them win, but because Dellin Bentances is NOT going to shut down anybody.
