Was hoping they'd give fat man Wells a little more respect, but +130 is suitable.

Nats should be extra motivated to face Pedro as well. He might not last two innings if the fastballs are flying at the hitters tomorrow, lol.

Metra, you need to post your actual play(s) in the best bets section for record tracking. This thread is for capping and discussions, just a heads up.

I think the Nats are the way to go tomorrow. Pedro looked anything but healthy or sharp in the first meeting. On top of that, you have a league mandate, and if Pedro can't pitch inside, he's vulnerable.

winston, i can see pedro sending it tomorrow. the only problem i see is that the nats can't seem to capitalize on his gift to them.

                            Hump Day Afternoon Contests...

                            Kansas City (J.Affeldt) at New York (S.Chacon) – 1:05 p.m. ET
WEATHER: Afternoon high of 64°, partly cloudy turning to cloudy, winds 15-22 MPH from south (RF to LF).

UMPIRES: Paul Emmel. Least experience (5½ yrs) of anyone on Crew J. Worked last Friday’s (Apr 7th) game in KC when the Royals topped the ChiSox, 11-7. Called a lot of balls early (Garland v. Affeldt), but seemed to widen his zone as game wore on. Originally hails from Michigan, and still shy of his 38th birthday.

KC: Jeremy Affeldt got pummeled last Friday by the White Sox (with Emmel behind the plate), and he’s a much better pitcher at night than in the day. This is only his second start against the Yanks, along with six relief outings, and he has a record of 0-1 with a 5.52 ERA. He’s 0-1 with a 7.59 ERA at The Stadium. Hates to see Johnny Damon, Jason Giambi and Hideki Matsui in the box; doesn’t mind seeing Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada or Derek Jeter.

NYY: Shawn Chacon did not have his good stuff last Friday in Anaheim when he took the loss in a 4-1 decision to the Angels. He is a little better pitcher in sunlight as opposed to night lights. Has made one start in his career against the Royals, and was pounded into submission. In six career starts in the Bronx, Chacon is 3-2 with a 2.61 ERA. He’s had solid success against Mark Grudzielanek (0-for-12) and Reggie Sanders (2-for-9), but does not fare well versus Matt Stairs (.500, 2 HR, 6 AB).

My Play: I like the Yanks in this one, but will stay away from the -320 they’re asking. What can I say other than I’m just a cheap bastard.

                            San Diego (C.Young) at Florida (B.Moehler) – 1:05 p.m. ET
WEATHER: Afternoon high near 80°, humid, partly cloudy, winds 20-30 MPH from ENE (out to LF).

UMPIRES: Angel Hernandez. Part of Crew A, has 12 yrs experience and, in my opinion, is one of the worst umps in the biz since his strike zone can be very inconsistent within a game, drifting from tight to big back to tight again from pitch-to-pitch. Cuban by birth, Floridian by residence, lousy umpire by desire.

SD: Chris Young is coming off a bad Padres debut last Friday in San Diego when the Rockies cranked him for a pair of homers and four runs in just over five innings. He’s a better pitcher by more than 1½ runs in the daytime as opposed to night. The 6-10 former hoops star from Princeton has no track record against the Marlins or in Miami.

FLA: Brian Moehler got lit up like an easy pinball machine last week in Houston in his first and only start of the season so far. Moehler gives up an extra quarter run in day games and is making the first start of his career against the Friars. Since 2003, he’s 1-7 in 15 starts and four relief appearances at the Fish Tank, doing well against Mike Cameron (.208, 24 AB) and Mike Piazza (0-for-6) with a not-so-great grade versus Brian Giles (.333, HR, 9 AB).

My Play: I like Chris Young in this one, though you never really know what kind of strike zone you’ll get with Hernandez south of the dish. With both Young and Moehler being fly ball pitchers, and the wind blowing out to left, I also like the over 8½ (-120).

                            Chicago (J.Contreras) at Detroit (N.Robertson) – 1:05 p.m. ET
WEATHER: Motown under 60% rain threat throughout the afternoon, high about 65°, obviously cloudy, SSW winds 15-25 MPH (in from right-center).

                            UMPIRES: New crew.

CWS: Jose Contreras gets his second starting nod of the season after a no-decision last week at homer opposite the Tribe. He’s a run better in day games and has a 3-1 record with a 2.67 ERA in five career starts at Comerica. He’s 5-2 in 11 career outings against the Tigers with a 3.69 ERA. He practically owns Brandon Inge (.160, HR, 25 AB) and Dmitri Young (.091, HR, 22 AB), but struggles a bit versus Magglio Ordoñez (.333, HR, 12 AB) and Placido Polanco (.429, 7 AB).

DET: Nate Robertson struggled a bit in his first start against Texas, but still managed to get the win. He is not a good pitcher during the day, but is better at home. He’s 10-14 in 37 career starts at Comerica (4.38 ERA) and is 4-3 in 10 starts against the White Sox (4.38 ERA). He can’t stand to see Paul Konerko (.333, 3HR, 27 AB), Juan Uribe (.417, HR, 24 AB) or Tad Iguchi (.429, HR, 14 AB) at the plate, but does well against Joe Crede, Jermaine Dye and Scott Podsednik who are hitting a combined .146 in over 40 AB when facing Robertson.

My Play: With Contreras’ record against the Tigers and in Detroit, it’s hard not to like the defending champs at EVEN though they’ve been playing a bit inconsistently so far.

                            Cincinnati (B.Claussen) at Chicago (G.Maddux) – 2:20 p.m. ET
WEATHER: Afternoon high in low 70s, chance of rain in a.m. changing to partly cloudy in afternoon, winds 20-30 MPH from west (out to RF).

UMPIRES: Laz Diaz. Least experience (6 yrs) of anyone on Crew I. Worked plate last Friday (Apr 7th) in Philly with the Dodgers taking a 5-3 win. Called a lot of strikes (64%), might benefit a veteran like Maddux in this one.

CIN: Brandon Claussen pitched ok in his season opener against the Phillies, making just one mistake to Joe Randa who parked the pitch for a 3-run tater. He performs better under the sun as opposed to under the lights. But he has not fared well against the Cubbies, posting a 7.91 ERA and 1-3 record in four career starts. Claussen is 1-1 in two starts at Wrigley with a 5.91 ERA. Like a lot of pitchers, he has trouble against Derrek Lee (.333, 9 AB, all 3 hits HR), also having problems with Aramis Ramirez (.444, HR, 9 AB), Todd Walker (.500, 2 HR, 8 AB) and Michael Barrett (.333, 6 AB). Neifi Perez and Juan Pierre are a combined 0-for-7 against Claussen.

CHC: What can I tell you about Greg Maddux that you already don’t know? For the record, he had a solid first start last week in a 5-1 win over the Cardinals and is 13-15 with a 4.04 ERA in his last 35 starts on Chicago’s north side. What you may not know is the Reds have given Maddux fits the last few seasons with his record just 1-4 in eight starts to go with a very un-Maddux 6.75 ERA. The hitters most responsible for that are Austin Kearns (.318, HR, 22 AB), Ken Griffey Jr (.450, 2 HR, 20 AB) and Javier Valentin (.600, 4 HR, 10 AB). Adam Dunn has only batted .154 against Maddux, but has taken him deep three times in 28 plate appearances.

My Play: The wind blowing out in Wrigley always makes me a bit gun shy. In the end, I like the Maddux-Diaz matchup, and with a -153 price on Chicago would consider a half-unit wager on the Cubs.

When your team gives you a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning, how is it even in the realm of possibility that you walk the first two hitters in the bottom of the inning (especially when the next three hitters are future Hall of Famers)?

Affeldt already over 70 pitches through three...

So, unless Buddy Bell wants to bring in either Ambiorix or Elmer early in this one, the Pinstripers are going to get to face Sisco, Gobble and Wood who have been as effective as putting out fires with jet fuel.

I think with a 3 run lead he just wanted them to put the ball in play. I don't mind if the reliever gives up hits/runs in that situation just as long as he doesn't walk guys.
