    Richie Sexson released by Seattle
And the Bavasi Era house cleaning gets underway. For some reason I thought he had signed a five-year deal before the '05 season, so was expecting this to be a more expensive pill for the Mariners to swallow than it is. But they 'only' have to pay out about half of the $15.5 million he was set to receive this season. Dude's made about $70 million since 1997

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Mariners have released first baseman Richie Sexson and put pitcher Erik Bedard on the disabled list.

The team announced the moves before Thursday's game at Oakland. Sexson was hitting .218 in 74 games with Seattle this season. He was signed in December 2004 to a four-year contract.
