How much of this "lock" banter is drummed up by ghosts ...
... working for books, trying to get action on a certain side?

I don't get it. Why else would any player care to make such a forceful post about why x, y or z play was a "lock"?

Are the lock people trying to drum up personal celebrity on this site? Or are they folks working for the books, trying to sway public opinion?

Possibly some of that combined with 15 year olds crying out for attention, combined with people who are hoping they can get noticed, get hot, go tout and try to make a couple of quick bucks

So, try to sell picks after posting a successful record for some time? That the idea? I don't really get how anyone could think there's a lot of money to be made in selling picks. It's not like there is a scarcity of shitbags out there selling 50% wins.

If it were the books it certainly is not working to their advantage. Most "lock" threads as we see are complete duds. From what I've seen in different forums they lose 80+% of the time. That does not include when someone crediable suggest that a game is a lock or some other term similar to describe how confident they are in the pick. I'm speaking of the threads that are obvious BS - posted by someone just trying to draw attention. To me it seems like great fade material. So I think we can throw the "it's the books theory" out the window.

Wouldn't the fact that the lock threads are usually duds lend credence to the theory that books are trying to sway public towards losers by touting losing picks?

I guess that is possible, but most of us do see through the smoke cloud. Haven't we witnessed enough losing "lock" threads to no be persuaded by them? I'm sure most that read these are well aware of their losing quality.
we know there are posters on these forums that do work for the books- that is a no brain er for me. It's a business and we as bettors are supposed to be on the losing end of it.

What do you mean we are suppose to be losing? With that attitude you'll never win.

It's purely for attention, doubtful they are book employees. The book will get their action but some people never get their attention so to fulfill that human need of being 'wanted,' they drum up attention with stupid 'lock' threads.

I bet most don't even gamble.

is it possible that a lot of these people aren't aware that using the word "lock" is perceived as bad luck?

What attitude? I was referring to the books point of view. They don't want or expect us bettors as a whole to beat them in the long run. That's all...
