Chris Volstad may be starting for the Marlins today (07/06/08)
Serious rumor going around that Tankersley got sent down and Hendrickson is being moved to the pen.

Chris Volstad is very highly touted:

Florida Marlins farm system. He is a 2005 graduate of Palm Beach Gardens High School.
At 6 foot 7 inches and 190 pounds, he is an intimidating presence on the mound.
Drafted with the 16th pick in the 2005 MLB Draft, he is the highest player ever drafted out of his high school.

Chris's first season of pro ball showed why he was a #1 pick, as he went 4-3 in 13 starts (with 55 K's in 65 IP) between the GCL Marlins and Jamestown Jammers of the NY-Penn League(Low A) with a 2.22 ERA.
Chris never returned to Jamestown, instead starting out 2006 with the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League(A ball). He put in another strong season, going 11-8 over 26 starts with a 3.08 ERA.
Starting his 2nd full pro season at yet another level, with the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League, Chris has struggled somewhat compared to his first season and a half. He is currently 6-6 in 16 games(15 starts) with a 4.5 ERA.
On Saturday, June 1st, 2007, Chris Volstad threw a 7 inning complete game shutout in the 1st game of a double header against the Lakeland Flying Tigers(Detroit Tigers High A), lowering his season ERA to 4.18 and earning him not only his first career complete game, but first career shutout as well.

FLA: LHP Mark Hendrickson (7-7, 6.12 ERA)
The veteran left-hander has been victimized by the long ball of late. He gave up two in his past outing, including a grand slam to Ronnie Belliard, in a loss to the Nationals. In his past five starts, Hendrickson has allowed nine home runs in a 24 1/3-inning span. Hendrickson has dropped five straight decisions. For his career, he is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in eight games at Coors Field.

COL: RHP Aaron Cook (11-5, 3.38 ERA)
Cook threw his first career shutout, vanquishing the Padres, 4-0, on Tuesday night. He didn't let a runner past second base and forced 15 outs on ground balls. Cook can dominate a game with his sinker, but against an aggressive Padres lineup he crossed up hitters with a four-seam fastball. He finished with four strikeouts and no walks. Cook will be making his fourth appearance against the Marlins. He is 1-1 with a 4.73 ERA against them.

Hendrickson was the listed starter earlier today (At Pinnacle and Greek), then the game went off the board. When the lines returned, Volstad was now listed as the starting pitcher.

However, it has since changed again and is back to Hendrickson...So basically I'm wondering what in the holy hell is going on out in Colorado today.....

Noticed that too Stumpage.......and this begins the fun part where some books will have already cancelled bets originally placed on this game when the pitcher was changed to Volstad, even though the original matchup is back in place.

Exactly what I'm thinking, Cobra.....I bet the Rockies team total, then bet it again after Volstad was inserted, thinking my original wager would be cancelled seeing as "Hendrickson Must start".....So who knows.....

So now I'm assuming the Volstad wager will be cancelled. I'll probably email the book once they figure out who is actually toeing the hill out in Denver.....

Volstad made his major league debut and pitched 2 scoreless innings.

            Not bad considering it's Colorado.

He'll be in the starting rotation soon. Book it.
