Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Saturday, 7/05/08
Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Saturday, July 12.

Redding has been good for the Nats. Josh Fogg has been awful. The Nats are due.

If I can make a pick:
        1 unit Boston +114
Mussina is 0-3 in his last 5 starts. Mussina is 0-3 in his last three against Boston. Mussina hasn't won at home in his last three, going 0-2.

Bush has been terrible against the pirates. His last outing he gave up 6 runs in 5 innings. The only way I feel the brewers win this game is if they out slug pittsburgh.

2 in a row and will be looking to make it 3. I dont rate Masterson, but against Mussina, Red Sox will score big today and win.

This is a bet against Josh Fogg.

The last 3 games he has an ERA just under 14.00.

Boston Red Sox +124 - About the same on the Whip and Era, but the Yankee bullpen is their Achilles Heel. I think it'll be neck and neck for a good portion of the game with the Sox taking the late lead for the win.

BLUE JAYS +112: This is obviously en exceptional pitching matchup with Halladay facing Lackey, but it is hard to resist getting positive odds on a guy that has a 2.90 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 17 starts, and who just pitched a four-hit shutout Monday for remarkably his sixth Complete Game of the year. Now Lackey is great, no doubt, but he is not decidedly better than Halladay and he does not have the second lowest bullpen ERA in the American League supporting him like Doc does.

The Nationals had won 6 in a row in this series, before losing the first 2 on this road trip. Hoping today they can core enough against Fogg to salvage a win here.

I've got two words for ya, JOSH FOGG. Carlos Zambrano made his DL return yesterday and was expected to do big things. Zambrano did it. Those same things are not expected from Josh Fogg, and guess what? They won't happen either. Redding has been Washington's guy this year.

Folks...this is clearely a value play. Sampson gets the start in place of Roy Oswalt with an ERA of 6.04 after ten starts. Reyes, clearely a stronger more talented pitcher, will be on the mound for the Braves. Both are out to prove that they can pitch consistently. The line should be somewhere around +130 for this one and it is likely if Houston lights up Reyes in the early innings we will walk away with the win.
