gotcha. i don't traffic much in letdowns. the way i see it, any potential letdown today could be more than offset by playing Youkilis. bottomline, i just can't see Liriano holding down the Sox if he's not getting the corners, and McClelland won't be giving him the corners.

no i hear you and valid points, cetainly cant count on tmac giving any kind of corner which obviously makes it even tougher than it should be to pitch to the sox...prob either stay away or join you on the over, we shall see. Gotta run

Considering playing the Twins/Red Sox over, but I think that Bedard might have a better start here tonight. He's good on the road and has had success against the Twins. Liriano is terrible against righties, but the Red Sox have more lefties in the lineup, so not sure there either. But then again, both teams have good batters overall and the bullpens aren't too great either, especially the Twins.

well, far be it for me to talk anyone into a play, but here's my reasoning:
- formula that i use puts this in a range of 10.36-10.58
- McClelland behind the plate (along with T Welke, considered the most consistent over ump; 62.09 strike %, 16-7 over this season)
- Bedard will be on a pitch count, which means we should see some Sox middle relief. Bard and Papelbon are good. Sox middle relief is not. i'm not overly down on Bedard, but he's off the DL and is a long way removed from his last solid outing.
- Liriano has serious control issues (59 BB in 111 IP). those will be exposed against a patient Sox lineup since he won't get the corners with McClelland.

the negatives, as i see them: Sox may be in letdown mode a day removed from Yanks series, high-scoring game last night, and when both pitchers are on they can induce a lot of groundballs.
