I'm a big Tigers fan Now, let me say what I want to say: get the Cardials on the plus 1/1/12. Even though its in Comerica, that shit-talkinn Shev came in and ruined that locker-room. On a long shot: bet against the tigers, rl for the next 12 days.

Mariners look to sweep Mets in New York

It's been nothing short of a disappointing season for both clubs, so much so that management in Seattle and New York saw fit to dismiss their managers last week. With both clubs picked to challenge for the postseason, the new field bosses Jim Riggleman for the Mariners and Jerry Manuel of the Mets have very tough jobs ahead of them. The M's go for a sweep at Shea Stadium in New York Wednesday night.

                  Break up the Seattle Mariners!

They aren’t parading down Occidental Avenue just yet, but Mariners fans have something to smile about for a change. The M’s have taken the first two games of their three-game set at Shea Stadium against the New York Mets. And they’ve made the highlight reels in the process – in a good way this time.

In Monday’s opener, pitcher Felix Hernandez hit a grand slam off Johan Santana to power Seattle to a 5-2 victory; on Tuesday, it was knuckleballer R.A. Dickey tossing seven rare scoreless innings in an 11-0 thumping. Wednesday’s matchup features Miguel Batista making his return to the starting rotation, filling in for the injured Erik Bedard. John Maine responds for the Mets.

Seattle remains the most unprofitable team in the majors at 28-49 and 22.55 units in the hole. But since the firing of manager John McLaren, the M’s are 3-2. New York, meanwhile, is 3-4 since showing Willie Randolph the door. The Mets are now two games below .500 at 37-39, disappointing enough to leave them 11.31 units in debt.

Wednesday is a prime opportunity for New York to strike back. Batista was banished to the bullpen after posting a 6.26 ERA (5.51 xFIP) and a 1.90 WHIP; he’s personally responsible for 4.59 units of Seattle’s losses. Pitching from the bullpen hasn’t fixed his problems, either. He has two blown saves in five relief appearances, losing games in the ninth inning to Washington and Atlanta.

Maine’s work has been much better received. The fourth-year righty has a 3.78 ERA (4.45 xFIP) with a 1.32 WHIP; however, New York is only 8-7 in his 15 starts, costing Mets supporters 0.58 units. The problem, as it has been throughout the season, is a lack of offensive support. New York is No. 14 in the majors with 350 runs scored and No. 22 with a .722 team OPS.

The Mariners would love to have that kind of production at the plate. They’re No. 28 overall with 300 runs, and their .682 OPS is second worst to the lowly Nationals. But there has been some improvement under new manager Jim Riggleman. Richie Sexson (.673 OPS) and Kenji Johjima (.585 OPS) combined to go 5-for-8 at the plate Tuesday, driving in five of Seattle’s 11 runs. Jose Vidro (.585 OPS) has a bad knee and has yet to appear in this series, which is a case of addition by subtraction for the M’s.

It’s a very small sample size to work with, but Seattle has made positive strides since McLaren and general manager Bill Bavasi were given the heave-ho. Riggleman, for the most part, hasn’t shown the same unmerited appreciation for veterans like Vidro and Miguel Cairo (.488 OPS) that McLaren did. However, this may be a product of interleague play; Vidro is the team’s designated hitter, and this series is being played in a National League park – giving Hernandez a chance to swing for the fences. Even Dickey got on base Tuesday with a single to right.

There will be no quick fix for the Mets’ batting order under Manuel. Injuries to Moises Alou (calf), Ryan Church (concussion) and Angel Pagan (shoulder) have decimated New York’s outfield. None of the veteran fill-ins has done the job thus far, including Trot Nixon, who’s 4-for-27 since joining the team on June 14. Nixon is hitless in six at-bats in this series.

The Mets are –200 favorites on the MLB betting odds with a total of nine runs. Game time is 7:10 p.m. Eastern with local TV coverage on FSN in Seattle and SNY in New York.

                        Detroit/St.Louis
Lohse has pitched well of late really all year and is on a nice run. He had some minor success @ Fenway where as Det is a place he struggled and a team who hit .301 career off him. Sheffield HR in his 1st game back makes me think he is finally healthy . He has been 2 very different players in DET when healthy and not healthy . Also while his NIGHT splits are great 2.01 ERA the fact he has failed to go past the 6th inning so far away and done that in just 3 of 7 away starts .

BAA .313 away vs .220 at Home

Sure to some extent he is a new pitcher but back in the AL facing tough lineups will show alot . I was all over him @ Fenway on Friday but different situation here IMO.

Galarraga for as good as we think he has been might actually be better since he has the lowest BAA for a SP in baseball . Going to be interesting to see what the STL RH can do as he allows a .129 BAA . Ludwick is 320 vs RHP and Glaus has alot of RBIs vs RHP. Schumacker has a great 340 avg but there hasnt been much else( he is LH) . Miles a soft 314 so far(LH) . Glaus , Ankiel , Kenndedy, Duncan in the 250 to 260 range . In 5 of his last 6 starts the Tigers staff has not allowed more then 2 opponent runs (menaing his start plus then pen) .

Curious to see where this ends up ...right now thinking DET takes Game 2 and Game 3 . Also thinking 1st 5 Inn over and maybe even over despite Bell's 10-1 Under mark....

                        Some Trends :
                        STL 19-6 in Game 2 's
DET 23-7 L30 IL @ Home and 49-13 as IL chalk
                        W.Bell Umps ? 62-24 for Home Favs since 2005 but 41-10 in 05&06.
