Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Monday, 6/23/08
Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

      D'BACKS + 144

      In this battle of righties,
      I'm leaning towards Haren.
      He's 3-0 in his last 3 starts.

      (If/when) he's yanked, no problem!
      Arizona's BP is well rested.
They have only worked 2 2/3 innings in their last 3 games.
      GL guys!

        Arizona +160

Even though Arizona got swept over the weekend, it was on the road against a hot Minnesota club, while on the other hand Boston, almost got swpet at home, by a banged up Cardinal team. I feel Boston is very vulnerable right now and this price is just to high.

NATIONALS +166: This play is for contest purposes only and is not one of my actual plays. Lackey has obviously been great this year, as he has yet to allow more than three runs in a game in seven starts. However, Bergmann also had an insane stretch for Washington where he tossed 19.2 scoreless innings over three starts, then after three sub-par outings, he seemed to regain his form last start when he allowed just one earned run and five hits in six innings. It also helps that the Angels have never faced him. Nice value on the home dog at this price.

#906 Wash +166 : stats all point to a Halo's victory, but i hope this east coast trip is taking a toll on LAA and the Nats pull one out, i ain't playing this game ,but for a contest i will.

note: LT ,sometimes i think you and me think in a parallel universe, i don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

With Santana and King Felix pitching, the game should be close, giving Seattle a shot. Mets and Mariners are both up and down.

Dbacks +162 is not a play. It's a check waiting to be cashed. If the Cardinals with all their injury problems almost swept the Red Sox, the Dbacks can steal this one. This might end 4-3 in favor of the visitors. The Red Sosx doesn't just look like a team in the mood to win 2 games in a row.

                              7:10PM (EST) 906 Washington Nationals +166

Jason Bergmann turned in another solid start for the Nationals against Minnesota. He surrendered just three runs, only one of them earned, over six innings. Bergmann struck out two and threw 106 pitches, 61 of them for strikes. However, he picked up the loss, as the Twins pitching staff shut down the Washington lineup.

John Lackey has faced the Nationals once, giving up four earned runs in six innings of a no-decision.

Diamondbacks +162. Taking Haren over Beckett. Tough games tonight, but this one looks better on paper than Ms (0-6 against Santana) and Nats (worst offense in the league).
