1st round is when all good teams face weaker sisters. Portugal/Germany will be a battle. Lots of guys rolling on the ground. It is worth it to me to play Portugal, they have been good to me. I like Croatia, Solid team, and Turkey owes me money after Sunday. Holland is awesome. Italy is dangerous. worst part is risk of tie.

Exactly why I haven't bet yet. Love soccer, my favorite sport. I'm used to seeing more ties than there have been. Good luck on your bets. I took Holland at 4-1 odds to win the thing, I'm insanely impressed with their play. I think portugal will win tomorrow, just hope the lousy germans don't play for a draw and then PKs. I hate how the bets have to settle on 90 min. of regulation.

Man, you'd be surprised. Teams that are weaker live for the draw because PKs are a total crapshoot. Anyone can win, just ask the Chelsea players.

Holland, Spain, and Croatia are immense favorites. Portugal looks good on paper, but the Germans are more experienced than the Portuguese, and that counts a lot in KO games.

Ronaldo's coming off a great world cup and a huge year at Man U, you have to think the portugese will want to nail them game down and the germany's have looked softer than in recent years. I think I'll take a day off from MLB and bet the portugese tomorrow.

With the depleted defense Italy has, I don't see them containing a Spanish team that has two of the most lethal strikers in European soccer - Torres and Villa. Spain is also not reputed for defense, so this is one game one could go for the OVER.

They lost a lot of players to the yellow card rule during that France game, and without Cannavaro, this team's D was already weak. I like your reasoning Wilforth. Now I'm back on the fence about who to lay money on

One thing about the German team is that they tend to get better as the tournament progresses. A player like Ronaldo will likely be man-marked. It happens to star players in every tournament. He won't enjoy the "space" he's enjoyed thus far. Don't expect much free-flowing entertaining play in the KO stages. The Germans can be very scrappy and defensive. I've watched them a lot.
