For over 25 years I have been using umpire information as one of my tools to handicap baseball totals. Long before computers and the internet, I would keep charts for current and back years on the umpires' stats. Now, anyone can access this information. I fully realize that umpires are just one of many factors that influence the total in the game of baseball, but I will be posting the games which the umpires have a propensity for either under or over, based on the current year, the last 3 years and the last 10+ years. If all match up in one direction, I will post it. I have NOT back tested this, so once again, you may want to use this information as an additional tool for your totals handicapping. If it wins consistantly, which I feel it will, you may want to play them.

One more thing, the first game of a series we do not know the home plare umpire until 10 minutes before the game starts, so I will not be posting for those games. After the series starts we know who will be the next day's umpire, so those are the games I will post.

Don't know why more people dont handicap the umpires. Seems like a profitable angle if all the info is correct & there is enough trial.

if you get a reliable line service such as sports options they normally have the umps up for the first game of a series games up at least an hour before game time

I have never used JUST umpires, so this experiment of using just umpires should be interesting. Sometimes just keeping it simple is the best policy.

I'm certaim most of us have "over handicapped" a game only to have it lose.

u have to find that info on your own for the opening games of a series after the opening game its easy MOST of the time its the 1st base ump moves hp the next day

For a new series you have to wait until box scores are released

For an existing series you can look them up yourself. Yesterday's 1B ump is today's Home plate ump. Yesterday's 2B ump is tomorrow's Home plate ump.

If you don't want to look them up yourself there are sites out there that track them. One's another gambling forum so I won't mention it here. Here's a blog you can check

I thought the box score was released after the game or during. For example i can see all the box scores on ESPN.com for last nights game and using your info above figure out who is going tonight. But what about umpires for game 1s tonight.

If you go to today's mlb.com scoreboard, there will be a little link that says "box" about an hour before that particular game starts. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Click on "box" and they will have lineups, weather, umpires, etc.

You have to be careful looking at only the current year of an umpire. It can be misleading. As I mentioned in my one post, I used to track all these stats myself, but now I subscribe to StatFox, and I am able to get the current year, the last three years and since 1997. Only when all three of those line up in the same direction do I post it.

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner but I go tied up.

Even though Diaz was 7-13 to the under this year, for the last 3 years he is 43-43.
