Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 6/17/08
Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

        Kansas City +130

The Royals are coming into this game riding a 2 game winning streak and almost swept Arizona on the road, their only loss being 0-1 squeaker. The last 6 games in this cross state rivalry played in St Louis came out dead even, both teams going 3-3. I feel with Pujols and a couple of key players out KC can steal this opening game.

PADRES +166: This line is grossly inflated just because it is the Yankees! Wolf is simply in raging form right now. He has recorded six straight Quality Starts, but that does not tell the entire story of just how hot he has been, as he has allowed exactly one run in each of his last three starts and exactly two runs in the two starts before that. Pettitte is a shell of his former self, and he has become inconsistent this season, seemingly alternating good and bad efforts. One constant for Pettitte though has been his poor pitching at home, where he is 1-3 with a 6.25 ERA and a1.47 WHIP. The last time he pitched in Yankee Stadium, he was torched for 10 earned runs in 6.2 innings by the Kansas City Royals.

Ok so Kazmir is on fire. Anytime, however, you get a team as good as Chicago and a Pitcher in Dempster who is 8-2 with a sub 3 ERA it's an instapick in my opinion. Chi +133 is the play, book it.

#909 CHC +133 : i'll bite on this one, the best team in baseball, at least for now is getting this price. Dumpster is crap IMO, but with Crawford out for TB and CHC knocking the cover of the ball vs. lefties and the pen performing over their head, i'll take my chances.

Pirates have been scoring runs in bunches against Baltimore whereas Whitesox where shut out by Rockies at home. Teams are going in different directions. Vasquez was awful last two starts whereas Snell was very good last start. Konerko is out too.

Cubs +133. Dempster goes for his ninth win, extending the streak of Cubs pitchers allowing three earned runs or fewer to seven games. He tossed a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts on Wednesday in a 7-2 win over Atlanta.

bet against them 4 times last week and lost all plays; going with them as a dog and will take pitcher with 2.30 era being a dog every time.

Not feeling strong on this play, but I have to bet a team. The Marlins are 38-32 this season. The Mariners are 24-46. I think the Marlins will get more hits and put this game away.

I like lefty Zito in the afternoon sun at home.Against Galarraga simply because he has pitched a lot in his last 3 starts which is an angle I look for said pitcher to be less effective.

                                                        2nd choice if not Giants.

I believe Mike Lee has an angle in which you play the rookie at home if a dog.And bet against rookie if favored.
Here's hoping Peavy picked up the paper this AM and saw how he is being dissed by linemakers against the ever fraudulent Yankees.
