I am 2-4 over the past six days. I concluded that it is because I am not being conservative enough with picks. For example, Boston won yesterday, but I got greedy and took the run line., which caused me to lose. Therefore, today and from now on, I am taking the conservative approach to capping. This doesn't mean that I am taking all favorites either. I am also going to detail what I like and dislike about each pick.
My pick for today is:
Reds -128
Pros:
Volquez has been the most dominant pitcher in the majors this year. If that isn't reason enough to take this decently sized favorite, they are opposing Mark Hendrickson. While Hendrickson started off the year well, he has since struggled a lot. His home ERA is a 4.62, but batter average a .291 against him. He also gave up 4 er over 5 inning when he pitched in Cincinnati last month. He is 0-2 with an 8.49 ERA versus Cincinnati in his career. They hit .369 off him. Hendrickson has an 11.66 ERA in his last 3 starts. Each of Volquez's last three starts has followed a Cincinnati loss, and although he has received only one decision in those outings, the Reds (30-34) have won each time.
Cons:
The Reds are not as dominant on the road, going 11-24.
