Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Thursday, 6/05/08
Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Wednesday, June 11.

I like Nolasco's chances against the recently struggling Jair Jurrjens. Nolasco has been hot lately and Jurrjens has been struggling.

BLUE JAYS +157: Wang has not been himself lately with a 7.91 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in his last three starts, and the Jays are not the team he wants to face right now, since the Yankees are just 1-3 as a team in his last four starts against them. He is catching the Jays at a bad time too, as they are just starting to hit averaging 5.00 runs per game while hitting .282 as a team over their last 10 games. McGowan should be a lot better than 4-4, as he has allowed three earned runs or less in 10 of his 12 starts, but like the rest of the Blue Jays staff, he suffered from a lack of run support until lately. He has held his form well with a 2.79 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in his last three starts. Finally, Toronto still leads the American League with a 2.86 bullpen ERA.

Was just starting the writeup when it went ahead and posted . FLA +$147 Jurrjens has been poor last couple outings, that continues today. Fla continues to play over their heads. Book it.

The price here is too high IMO. Toronto is only 1 game below .500 on the road this season and they have won 6 of their last 10. Wang has not looked sharp in his last couple starts while McGowan is pitching well. In his last 3 starts he has 19 1/3 innings; 2.79 era.

I'll again ride the Jays. They have been a quality road team (relativley speaking) they are 6-4 overall in their last 10 mostly on the road.Too much value to pass up.NYY still a overpriced public favorite.

As a side note. Last nite I heard that the winning pct. for road teams in the majors this year was like at 40%. Which is the lowest winning pct. since 1931 for road teams. I look for this to "even" out relativley speaking in the second half of the year.Which should present some great road dog oppurtunities.

Cincinnati +195: Bailey is supposed to be the next big thing coming in Cincy (aside from Bruce, Volquez and Cueto). It will start sometime. He settled down some in his later outings last year. Good value, unlikely to actually win.

Let's try a new approach after going 1-3 so far in this great contest, i am going to take the Kansas City Royals tonight against CH. Whitesoxs. The KC Royals are by far the best team in baseball today and the most UNDERRATED team this year Meche is 3-7 5.35 W/WHIP 1.42 while the opposition is only batting a mere .273 against him , and against the CWS he is only 6-2 4.09 W/WHIP 1.35 and CHW are batting .230.
Now on the flip side we have one of the worst teams this year in the CH.Whitesoxs and throwing Contreras who is 5-3 2.89 W/WHIP 1.06 while his oppenets are batting .220 against him and against the KC Royals he is 8-4 3.41 W/WHIP 1.15 and yielding a .234 batting avg against him.

L10 games KC is batting .271 @ RH pitching and CWS are batting .280 @ RH pitching
L10 KC bullpen has an ERA of 3.44 while the CWS have a ERA of 1.39
                                              L10 KC is 2-8 (0-4 road), CWS 6-4 (3-0 home)

Why do you ask that I give KC credit well reverse pshycalogy thats why and we have to choose an UNDERDOG of the DAY and well can't get anymore of a underdog than this after reviewing these stats. Gotta hype them up and believe in them.

Carlos Enrique Nolasco stepped up in a big in his last start, tossing 6 2/3 solid innings in a win at Philadelphia. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak, and quieted a red-hot Philadelphia offense. Nolasco yielded two runs on four hits, and he struck out five. The right-hander has now won four straight decisions since his last defeat on May 3 to the Padres.

At least, that's what they want me to think, but I know the trap is a trap and the play is on the reverse trap of the original trap. That's why I'm on the Dodgers instead of the Cubs, so Cubs become the play except that would be over-thinking which is exactly what they want me to think about playing the pick which is the opposite of the trap of the trap from the original trap.
