Marlins still 25-1 to win NLCS
The Marlins swept the Giants today.

Yeah I know, no big deal.

    But.

They have a 2.5 game lead in the NL East on Memorial Day. Josh Johnson and Anibal Sanchez are on the DL and may be back within 45 days or so and possibly Chris Volstad. Their 2nd best hitter, Josh Willingham, is on the DL. Things are looking up for this team.

I got them at 40-1 about 3 weeks ago @ WSEX.

25-1 isn't as juicy but $100 to win $2,500 has a nice ring to it when you're laying money on a 1st place team in June.

They are not going to win that division. They have no pitching.

They don't have to win the division to win the NLCS.

      Their bullpen is lights out.

And when Johnson and Sanchez return, the starting rotation will be legit.

Wouldn't it also be same to assume that Hendrickson will not pitch great all year. They are just not as good as Philadelphia/Atlanta and probably the Mets.

Hendrickson is definitely over performing but are you aware he had Lasik surgery in the offseason? Just saying.

Look, I'm very aware they are a longshot. I'll take them EVERYDAY at 40-1 to win the NLCS when they're in 1st place.

And at 25-1 on Memorial Day I don't think it's such a bad play.

Sanchez is projected to return by the All-Star break and Johnson by August.

Yeah Sanchez did nothing. He just threw a no-hitter and was one of the prizes in the Beckett deal.

the prize of that deal was hanley
                  not sanchez
he threw a no-no. so what, so do a lot of crappy pitchers. who is tom browning.
johnson returns in august then what? he suddenly pitches 6 innings a game? come on dude. no chance. none. for those pitchers to return.

Even right now the Fish seem to be cooling down. Their pitching is not very good and the only real offense they have is Hanley and Uggla. From the NL East, I would expect either the Braves or the Mets to win. The Phils have a great offense, but their pitching is awful besides Cole Hamels.

I guess we'll agree to disagree on the Marlins @ 25-1. The DRays are 15-1 to take down the ALCS for example.

The Drays will not win the ALCS either. They have talent, but they are not consistent enough. That is the key to winning. Besides, they have to compete with the likes of Boston and the Yankees. And never count the yanks out. Take last year and 2005 as an example. Every year Steve Phillips of Baseball tonight talks crap about the Yankees being an awful team and being out of it. They prove him wrong every year. He's just bitter about being an awful Mets GM back in the late 90s/early 2000s.
