I have been in that position, but not quite 2 grand. I lowered my units and picked safer bets until I starting to feel comfortable. Then, you continue raising your units and start making money again. Money management is key. Some bettors like to raise up their units when they start losing to try to make their money back quicker, but most of the time it fails and they are exceedingly in the hole.
