I think MLB is the easiest sport to make a profit on for the beginner. You basically predict the outcome of a game % and determine if that % is good enough for the juice given by the books. Far simpler and more value to be had then when betting linesComment -

For those betting baseball, my advice is to come up with some sort of system or use someone else's. System betting can be very profitable because there is such a large sample size of games that handicappers are usually able to find systems proven to be successful over the long run. Last year I followed a thread on here based on betting the biggest favorite on the run line every night in a chase bet. Chase bets are risky but it proved to be very profitable and never had more than 5 losses in a rowComment -
I love betting baseball have had an up down start so far but overall I usually do ok. You gotta blame yourself for betting Wandy Rodriguez and the Astros who are just absolutely terrible. You were getting plus money for Cubs with their #2 pitcher on the bump going against a struggling Astros team. No brainer where my money was going.Comment -
You just have to be smart with baseball. A lot of people bet it like they do baseball or basketball. Underdogs do win often, the key is to pick your spots, do your hw, and pick the winners. This early in the season it is too hard to play. I usually wait til the end of April.Comment -

Baseball is slow going in the beginning as you try to find out more about teams. It takes about a month to truly find out how they are hitting, what starting pitchers are consistent, and what teams have solid bullpens. Following pitching daily and doing your homework with how teams are hitting from one game to the next, and how starting pitchers have performed in their last 2 performances will tell you a lot about how they will perform during their next outing. Betting the spread on baseball in my opinion is not very profitable unless you are betting a home underdog with a solid starting pitcher on the mound. The home run can change a game in an instant, so betting the spread can be very risky, especially when you bet the spread of -1.5 and your team has a 2 run lead heading into the bottom of the 9th and the closer comes in walks the first hitter, then gives up a double scoring a run, but then proceeds to settle in and mows down the side, but in the process you lose the bet against the spread. It happens way to often where the bullpen blows your cover, so you might as well just pick moneyline winners, as long as they are not in the -210 range. Pick your spots, where the pitching matchup looks favorable, and where teams are hitting well.
