I would like to gather some information for a research paper I am writing about how the results of sport games affect consumer purchasing behaviors. The best way I see being able to do this would be linking your emotions to the results of a sports game and compare that to research already done on how emotions impact consumer decisions. Also if you know of any research done on this topic it would be appreciated but I did look pretty hard. Thank you so much for your help !!!
    Additional Details

Any answers help, however I am looking for emotions as a FAN of a team.

For baseball, there are lot of games. My team will win some and lose some.. I can take a loss, no problem. What really frustrates me is losing a game in the last couple innings, most importantly the 9th. My team is the Brewers and that opening day loss was a killer. As far as consumer purchasing behavior, as you already know, I would say alchohol sales would be directly related to this. Many times after a really frustrating loss, a settle down with a beer or two. This could have the reverse effect. When the packers won the super bowl (see below) I definitely spent some money at the bars celebrating the win, but it could have gone the other way, spending money at the bar drowning sorrows.

As a fan of the Packers, there are less games giving more importance to each game. Each loss if much more significant than a baseball loss which will lead to a bit more emotions, good or bad. As far as spending goes, as my emotions would grow due to the success of my team, my money would be spent towards a t-shirt etc showing pride for my team (updating the super bowl champions shirt collection)

Personally: I feel emotions of different strength, effected by the magnitude of my bet. If i have a small unit bet than i dont worry too much. But when i bet big because im chasing or really like a play, thats when i get really pissed if I lose. Which makes me want to get the money right back and i end up losing even more. Thus exasperating me even more and ruining my day.

I tend to get pissed off if the Astros screw something up to lose the game. An honest loss really sucks but there are more games, but when the 'Stros give up a decent lead or start racking up the errors I get a bit mad. As far as consumer buying decisions I typically spend the same amount on the team every year (2 new hats, a new jersey/shirt, and tickets to as many games as I can get to).

            Here's my two cents.

When the Diamondbacks are playing good and winning I tend to be more apt to purchase more team apparel because I'm not embarrassed to be seen with it on. However when they aren't playing good, making errors, not hitting the ball, not pitching well, can't finish, etc. I get frustrated and get self conscious about wearing their colors around in public. As for betting when a team loses I get upset and usually follow the loss with an unrecommended bet to try and make up for the loss. Not a good strategy. However when a team that I bet on wins then I'm very happy. I also agree with Petenana that alcohol sales are probably the most affected market when teams when and lose. You drink when they win and you drink when they lose. Okay so the alcohol industry wins no matter what.

Hope this is helpful! Good luck with your paper Gunslinger!
