    Opening day picks
    Yankees -143 3 units

    under 4.5 first five innings_120 4units

The weather should be cold and nasty but this is a hitters park and may be a fun one to watch. I just think both teams will come out sluggish in this weather and two pitchers who can certainly keep this under 4.5 in the first 5. I know Verlander could have a a Cy Young type year but looking at his stats against the yanks last year and the yanks dominance over the tigers makes this a play for me. Verlander had two starts against the yankees last year, and he only lasted 11.2 innings.

The Yankees have won 27 of their last 37 meetings against the Tigers in new york and they have only lost to Detroit once in these last two seasons here. I am not a believer that this will be a down year at all for the Yankees but we will see.

    Royals +135 1 unit

    under 8.5 -115 1 unit

The Royals were the hottest team in baseball in spring training and people are saying this team could be something in the next few years. One winning season in the last 17 years and a ton of rookies and lowest payroll in the majors makes this a 1 unit bet. The angels have vernon wells and may actually be pretty good this year, pitching matchup favors the angels but this is purely a value play on the side .

    Braves -139 1 unit

I cant believe strasburg is not pitching today, same feeling with greinke in milwaukee. I would have picked the nationals with Strasburg throwing but going with the braves with this pitching matchup. This nats team has jayson werth and a revamped outfield with ankiel, I just like the braves with lowe on the mound. It should be interesting to see how Heyward does this year and the Braves have a ton of young talent.

    Cardinals/padres under 4 -120 first 5 innings 5units

There is no value on the side in this game unless you take the runline and I dont see any value at all on Stauffer and the padres as a side. The Cardinals will send Chris Carpenter to the mound against the Padres’ Tim Stauffer. Carpenter finished last season with a 16-9 record and 3.22 ERA. Stauffer replaced Latos and he will make his first Opening Day start and normally I would like the value with the padres on this one. Looking at stauffers numbers from last year , he finished with a 6-5 overall record and 1.85 ERA, . He finished with a 1.08 WHIP in 2010. As a starter, Stauffer was 3-2 with a 1.83 ERA and 1.04 WHIP .

He made one start in 2010 at Busch Stadium playing the Cardinals last Sept. 16. In that game, he allowed four earned runs and six hits in five innings, while striking out two and walking two in a 4-0 loss. Stauffer is 0-4 with a 9.33 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in four career starts versus St. Louis. He posted a 2-0 record with a 3.66 ERA in 19.2 innings this spring, not shabby numbers at all.

I think the Royals will be a very profitable team this year.

I was just about to come back here and post that cincy ml pick. I love first five inning wagers, bullpens have been notoriously unreliable over the past few years. There is nothing worse than handicapping a game, loving the pitching matchup, winning the frist 5 or 6 or 7 innings then a bullpen come in and blow the wager iout of the water. Starting pitchers rarely go more than 7 these days, if that many, and having a book like dsi with second half wagering is great.

Gallardo numbers against the reds , he has a 2-3 career mark and 5.56 ERA in eight starts.
