Nice way to kick off the new season as my opening day selections resulted in 2 wins and 1 loss (+1.77 units).

I expect the Phillies to begin their 2011 campaign with a comfortable win when they take on the Astros in their home opener later today.

With four of the best starting pitchers in the National League at Philadelphia's disposal, there's no questionning Roy Halladay's level of consistency and ability to bring his 'A game' every time he takes to the mound. It's not surprising that he's been selected as their home opener today, he seems to be getting better with age and after an impressive 2010 campaign (including throwing a regular season 'perfect game' and post-season 'no hitter') I expect him to pick up where he left off and have an equally impressive campaign in 2011, if not more. Halladay has had some success against current members of the Astros allowing a .268 batting average (19 for 71) and .307 on base percentage.

Brett Myers will be making the opening day start for the Astros today against his former team in Philadelphia. He is coming off his most successful campaign as a professional posting a 14-8 win record and a career low 3.14 ERA during 2010. However, he struggled a little more on the road last year posting a 4.03 ERA overall and is now facing one of the strongest line-ups in the league. The Phillies are much stronger than the Astros in every department and home advantage is also in their favour today.

Take the Phillies -1.5 on the run-line.

still early in the India innings, now 96 runs for 2 wickets. Need to chase down 275 total runs so still a long way to go but live odds on India now down to -200 in the space of 20 minutes.. good sign!

India win the cricket world cup, the soccer pick is looking good so far and already 6 runs in the first 2 innings between the White Sox and Indians contributing to the 'over'. Promising start to the day and hopefully the winners continue to come in!

Tommy Hanson not pitching well for the Braves so far. Still early days yet though.

*this is pretty painful to watch.. 27 strikes, 29 balls. Just gave up a 2-run homer, 4-1 down

the sooner they get him off the mound the better.

Getting Blackburn +2 goals at that price was good value with the opportunity to 'push' if Arsenal won the game by two. I certainly couldn't see Arsenal winning by 3+ even if they are pushing for the title and in-front of their home fans. Blackburn have an ability to keep games tight against strong opposition at home or away so was definately worth a play on the handicap
