Had a bad night in Arizona last night. Let's turn it around tonight.

Ian Kennedy has been lights out his first two starts of the season. He's 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA. His win was a 1 run 8 inning masterpiece against Cincinnati. The ND was a decent showing against Colorado where he only gave up 3 runs. More importantly, it was a team win for Arizona.

Westbrook starts for St. Louis. He started the season with an ugly loss to the Padres. 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings. He did bounce back against the Giants, going 5 2/3 innings and only giving up 3 runs or a ND which ultimately was a loss in 12 for the Cards. Westbrook does have a start against the Dbacks, but it was from 2005 in an interleague game, so its hardly anything you can use to judge this game. For what it's worth, Westbrook was lights out in that start.

Batting wise, each team has certainly had their share of offense in this series. St. Louis leads 16-15 in runs scored. 15.5 runs per game. Does it continue on tonight? I think Kennedy pitches well enough to keep it just under.

I'll start with the easy game. Riding the Bruce Chen train until it crashes.

In ARI, I like the work Galarraga has done so far this season. 2-0 with a 6.75 ERA. The ERA is scary and no man with an ERA that high should be 2-0, but the fact is, ARI scores the runs in front of him. On the other side you have a young starter with 2 ND on the season. His ERA is much better at 2.25. But Cincy hasn't given him the runs to support him.

With the value on the play, I think this is a safe one to go for some big bucks.

Arizona and Cincinnati has a very easy play and one that I like for various reasons. The easy play is the UNDER. Arroyo and Kennedy have both had fantastic games against their opponent. Arroyo has been lights out this year except for his last start, and that only allowed 5 runs. Kennedy has had a decent start with one awful start in his last. This game is a great bounce back for both pitchers.

I like Arroyo and the Reds in this, just slightly. One, I don’t think that Arizona is going to win the series. Also, Arroyo has been great so far this year. He’s easily the best pitcher for the Reds so far this season.

In Cleveland, All I need to say is Justin Masterson. The guy has had one of the best starts to the season in the entire major leagues. He’s 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA. He has yet to allow more than 1 run in his last 6 starts heading into last year. He has great numbers against KC.

This one is a no brainer. Only reason the RL isn’t taken is due to KC’s hot start and their love of a dramatic finish.

Creeping closer to even on Arizona. Starting to get a feel for them.

And that takes us to get away day for the Diamondbacks. The early day game in Cincy.

Simple game in my eyes with a little bit of caution.

Hudson is 0-3 this season with his only decent start being the one against Cincy. A solid performance where he only allowed 2 runs in 7 innings and somehow managed a loss. At least a ND should have been in his cards. But the other two starts, not nearly as good. The only thing that looks good for Hudson in this game is his history against Cincy. The numbers support another decent outing.

On the other side, Leake is 2-0 with a 5.40 ERA. Now I must say that the ERA is extremely misleading here. He hasn't pitched into the 7th inning yet and because of the his numbers inflate. When you break it down, he's had two starts, his wins, where he only allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Simple math makes that a 3.00 ERA. However, his only bad start, a ND against Arizona, he allowed 6 runs in only 4.2 innings pitched. Simple math and some rounding gives him an ERA of 12.00 for that game. Ouch. So numbers aside, he's a much better pitcher this season than his numbers state. The only piece of caution in the game is his bad start came against these very same Arizona Diamondbacks.

So in recap. Hudson is bad, except for his start against Cincy. Leake is great, except for his start against Arizona. So obviously my play will be...

Well tonight we have two very similar games and four pitchers that have had a rough start to the season.

In KC, we have the final game of the series against CLE and KC couldn't be happier. Cleveland leads the season series 4-2 and look to put some major distance between the teams with a win tonight.

For KC, Davies is pitching. A guy with a very rough start to the season, but has calmed down over his last two starts and shouldn't be punished for only allowing 4 ER in those games. One of those last two starts was against CLE and should have gotten his team a win if not for a collapse by the pen that ended with a 7-3 loss in 10.

For Cle, Carmona is pitching. Three good starts, and two really really bad ones. He's a hot cold, hit or miss pitcher so far this season. Not sure what you'll get out of him. He could be lights out like the his three starts against BOS, LAA, and BAL, but it was BOS before they got hot, LAA and BAL. Not exactly a list of teams you can get excited about beating.

So what to do?

Off to Arizona who comes off an east coast trip that saw them getting swept by the lowly Mets, but taking two of three from the Phillies. Hard to figure this Arizona team out.

However there is good news in this game. Both Enright and Dempster are consistent pitchers. Consistently bad. Enright has given up exactly 4 runs in every game this season except for his last start, which had 5 runs. Dempster has given up 4 or more runs in all of his starts this season.

So basically the play here is the OVER. NOT SO FAST! Vegas has eyes too and has set the O/u at 10.5 so now I'm not to sure about it. The starters are good for 8-9 runs in this game, but will the pens give up a handful in thier innings of work? Maybe.

KC is one where you got to start playing the odds. 2-8 last 10. Lost their last 6 games. It's about time they are due.

Plus, if you follow my thread you know that I'm pretty high on Bruce Chen right now. He had a bad start last time, but it was against the first place Indians. One start is just not enough to make me jump off the Chen bandwagon.

Plus they have to win eventually... Right?

In Arizona, you got two extremely unreliable pitchers.

Zambrano has 2 wins and a start where he went 8 innings, 3 hits, 10Ks. But that game was a winner, it was a ND. Both of his wins had 4 and 5 runs allowed. In fact, that ND was his only decent start of the season, and yet he's 2-1 with a 5.28 ERA.

Galarraga is almost exactly the same as Big Z. He somehow is 3-1 with a 6.00 ERA. He has 1/4 of the wins the Dbacks have. But he's allowed more than 3 runs in every game. But for some reason, he gets the run support.

Chicago is on a pretty nasty losing streak as well, allowing 27 runs in only 4 games.
