I like to play in a few Fantasy leagues every year. This REALLY helps with my betting because I am exposed to a lot of players, and, in some cases, I can "sub-consciously" predict when certain hitters/pitchers will slump because I am constantly picking up information.

Things that affect that game are limitless though, from starting pitcher, all the way to weather conditions....my advice would be to rank your starting pitchers and rank your bullpens (as a whole). Those two factors are huge in how games are decided.

There, of course, is a lot more to it..but that's a good place to start.

Keep track of bullpens.
What team has a gas can for a closer, or what team used 4 relievers in 6 innings the night before and are unavailable.

In todays day and age, bullpens are just as important as starters when handicapping.

Don't be scared of the low totals when betting the under with 2 aces on the mound... Don't bet huge favorites, and don't bet the runline unless its the visiting team because they can bring in as many runs as they like... the home team only needs 1 in the 9th and extra innings

This is the only way you become beast - Look at everything, injuries pitchers, previous record vs team , team ba vs that pitcher, streaks, team streaks, who had sex the night before...etc...
