How Fast Can I Blow $20,000
Me and a friend were talking about sports betting and although I am pretty decent at picking ML plays in baseball he's convinced that if I had a big enough bankroll I would wind up being way ahead although I have no money management skills. Since the start of the year I'm a little over 54% on money lines.

On the advice from another thread of mine, I'm placing the same amount of $$$$ on each pick regardless of the pay back as my major problem is the amount wagered on each team.

Although I like that he believes in my skills that much I don't so I decided to create this thread with an imaginery $20,000 bank roll. I will be placing paper bets and see how long $20K would actually last me. $500 riding on each pick until the end of the MLB season....if I make it

    Todays picks 4/25/08
    Redsox -119 $500 to win $420.17
    Cubs -127 $500 to win $393.70
    Reds -138 $500 to win $363.32
    Brewers -160 $500 to win $312.50
    Angels - 106 $500 to win $471.70
    Yankees -134 $500 to win $373.13
    Blue Jays -104 $500 to $480.77

    Roll - $20,000
    Pending Wagers - $3500
    Roll % = 18%

Just keep in mind that if you are taking favorites all the time you will have to hit a lot more than 54% when you have teams -119 to -160 in the equation.

I don't always take favs. Just happened to work out that way today. Thanks for the tip though.

Yes it can. You can bet every single day and still beat the book by the end of the year.

Too many plays. Better off upping your $\unit and try picking 1 or possibly 2 games per day. Betting that many games every day, you will lose eventually.

GL but when giving that much juice your not getting any value. The value comes in when you get a team that should be favored and they are a dog.

I agree with this 100%, but damnit it is hard to discipline myself to one or two. I normally have four or five plays that I like each day. You are correct: the trick is to pick the very best one and wave goodbye to the others...and not look back. If you can do it, you're a warrior.

                  Ouch.

That's why I try hard to stick with dogs, especially dogs with decent pitching on the mound.

No such thing as to many plays. You bet whenever you have an edge on the line being offered. If that means one game for the day or ten games it makes no difference.

A fantastic start going 1-6 losing $2,528.30. The roll has been reduced to $17,471.70. Today I will be attempting to limit my plays and hit big.

                        Blue Jays -125 $500 to win $400

Another all favorites day. The juice on the Cubs is high but what the hell, their only paper plays anyway.

Respectfully I think this misses the point a bit. Of course you always bet when you have an advantage. Having so many plays a night suggests you're betting plays where there is no advantage.

I was commenting more on the general (and wrong) assumption that people should automatically limit their number of plays.

For those who haven't defined that they have an edge than i'd agree with you that the fewer the plays the better as generally speaking those players are making -EV bets.

Hmmm....jumped the gun on the White Sox game. Games was suspended in the 11th inning with a 3-3 tie. If this had been an actual wager would it be no action? The stats for the game are going to count but the 12 inning is going to be played at a later date in time with no announcement as to when that will happen.

Poll - No Action or Loss ?
