I say no. He was very good for a lot of years but I wouldn't consider him great. There's only one pitcher in the hall with a higher era than Mussina. You brought up wins. Good number overall but he didn't win 20 in a season until his very last year. He just never stood out to me as dominant which is who I think the Hall should be reserved for.

If you factor in that adjustmen he ranks with the best of them.

Pitchers in the 60's like Koufax etc. etc. pitched to a 2.00 era when the league era was like 3.25
Moose pitched to a 3.5 era when the rest of league pitched to like a 4 plus era.

A 5 time all star in an 18 year career doesn't really strike you as hall of fame material, does it?

As far as era goes, when I was looking at his stats I was checking other players in and around his time that stand out as hall of famers. He wasn't really close to them.

Pedro - 2.93
Clemens - 3.12
Maddux - 3.16
R Johnson - 3.29

It's just my opinion though. When someone says Mike Mussina to me, hall of fame doesn't pop into my head. When someone says pedro, clemens, maddux, r johnson to me, hall of fame does pop into my head.

I'd say yes. He won't get in at first, but definitely will before long. He was so good for so long.

I think he was a very good, consistent pitcher. Not one of the greatest ever though.

In my opinion, Mussina didn't have a really dominant stretch of seasons. I don't even put him in the top 5 from his era, so I can't put him in the hall.

I say no, he was really never a dominat pitcher of his era, he was always solid though. But who ever said we have to go to the game because Mussina pitching. Pedro, Maddux, Johnson, Glavine, and Smoltz were all more dominant pitchers.

Umm, Maddux and Pedro are all time greats, as in two of the best *ever*, can't even put Moose in the same sentence.

Can't compare Moose to Smoltz, Smoltz closed (like Eck) for the Braves those three years.
Did a nice job for them while closing however.

I will take Moose over Glavine though. If Moose pitched 22 years like Tommy, he'd have 305 wins also.
Earned run averages about the same, but Glavine pitched in no DH league.
