    Reds Votto Gets New Contract
Joey Votto helped the Cincinnati Reds to their first playoff appearance in 15 years, winning the NL MVP award for a breakthrough season. The first baseman earned a raise and boy did he get one. Votto has agreed to a $38 million, three year contract with Cincinnati buying out his arbitration years and giving the reigning NL Central champs some shortterm budget security. Votto earned $525,000 last season. Pretty nice bump!

The REDS are in an interesting spot. They have plenty of young talent and seem on the verge of being a force, but being a mid market team you wonder if they will be able to retain the talent they have and build around Votto. My hunch is yes, but the RAYS will tell you it's hard, even after you've proven you can win

How is Votto not making more than that? He's the current MVP. Even fat slob Fielder just got 15.5 million. Votto not even 13?
