In the 1970's, I as a boy wrowing up in western PA. It was always my Pirates and the Reds battling for NL supremacy, The buccos did win in '71, but Sparky and the Big Red Machine were way to dominant. I forget how many trips to the world series the Reds made in the 70's. But they were an awesome team and very well coached.
      RIP

Yes Sparky Anderson was among that great class of mlb managers during the seventies. Whitey Herzog, Chuck Tanner, etc. Can still see Sparky strolling out to the mound with his hands in his back pockets.
        Class act indeed.

For some odd reason the thing I remember about Sparky other than his championships is when he would walk out to the pitcher's mound. He would never step on the chalk lines. Baseball managers sure are a superstitious bunch.
