Game 1 tonight.. 206 million vs 55 million..................
that's why yanks suck. they should win the WS each year and they don't.. anyone they want, they get. hey, berkman is availabe, 12 million?? no problem. texeira available?? 20 million?? no problem.

if you tripled every TEX player's salary, and then added 5 of the biggest stars in baseball to their team, their payroll would still be lower than the NYY.

this is very sad.. this NYY team sucks.. they should be -1200 in this series with a 206 million$ payroll, and they're not.....and they will probably not win WS..

that's life in a free market. While I agree the money in baseball is loco at times, no one makes them spend the cash and there are no guarantees in sports.

If you painted cars for a living and were good at it, you might gets offers to work for a company that pays you 250K rather than the normal 50K most get. Doubt you will care if they make less.

I am a NYY fan but I think the Rangers will beat them this time!

this is favorable for us bettors, that is all that matters here correct? it is why the yankees are -150 tonight and it i the wrong line and too high. will they win, maybe but not enough times to justify that price in this game, that is a fact. the payroll is a joke all over sports but that is for another discussion. we are here to leech off inflated yankee lines and nothing else. they owe us.

the luxury tax is working because teams like the marlins and pirates make money from it, not because they transfer that with talent on the field. teams are nowhere near even. i don't blame them, i'd pocket the money and laugh to the bank just like they do.

No the luxury tax does not work. Why do they have this exception for one team. Since its inception the Yankees have paid 95% of total payments.

Any chance that Texas will sign Cliff Lee after the playoffs?

I think that the rangers have done a good job developing talent under Nolan's watch over the past few seasons. They did great signing Vladdy for a 1 year deal.

the luxury tax is working to keep the other teams in the league for stats and shutouts. the owners are not using it to buy players like the yankees and red sox and such, but rather to keep their teams afloat and thier boats (i mean yacht) afloat making money for their investment which is the team. they are in it to make money not have a winning team. i'd rather have my boats and and make money with my investment. sports is a business that is all.

Aren't the Rangers the first team that gave A-rod a bunch of money. Cry me a river.

We already know money can't buy championships....look at the past 10 years.

High salary doesn't equal wins. So stop complaining about the Yankees salary. It's not the crucial issue.

If the Yankee owner has the money and is willing to spend it, there is nothing wrong with that. That's the way the system works, and that's just a way of doing business. You can't penalize an owner for spending his own money in any way he sees fit. Throw in the fact that he also subsidizes tons of other small-market teams through luxury tax and revenue sharing, and you've got something that's good for the game.

What people SHOULD be complaining about is the opposite....the small-market owner who has plenty of money, receives plenty more from revenue sharing and then keeps the money for himself (not investing it in the team to improve its chances).

The Yankees are not screwing other teams out of championships...the ones they win, they deserved. People forget that the Yankees didn't just inherit money from a rich uncle or have it pop out of the ground....they earned it through promotions, attendance and most of all through winning consistently to keep fans coming back, keeping revenue streams in constant flow.

the yankees reward their players plain and simple. They overpay almost all of them so they are all HAPPY. Look at every other organization they jew over all their top players and they end up leaving or being unhappy. There is no such thing in the yankee organization i mean everyone is the highest paid, trainer announcers ect
