Convince me to lay off the Yanks in Game 2
I really like NYY in this spot. Pavano is a contact pitcher, and the Yankee bats provide plenty of contact. Twins less than 24 hours clear of a demoralizing loss where they led 3-0 with their ace dealing, and stranded a boatload on base. Yanks continue to own the Twins, both in Minny and overall. I can get a postseason vet, Pettitte, at a very tasty price.

I don't get it. A lot of touts like MIN and I'm not seeing it at all. I think this series could wind up a 3-0 sweep.

I would have gone big on the Yanks but I'm not sold that Pettitte is healthy. I've seen two of his outings since he came back and he hasn't shown anything. Plus fatigue will be an issue in the middle of the game since he hasn't worked more than 88 pitches since his return. Tough call.

Pettite is great in the post season but he hasn't looked like himself since his time off. Who knows how he will respond to this situation if he has some doubts about being ready or not. Pavano pitched well vs them last year. Minny at home in a must win.

That is the best I could do.

I played Minny small. Bigger on the under.

I want to take the under -- I really do. But chances are, one of these cats is going to get hit hard. I could easily see a 6-3/6-4 type game.

You were the only one who spotted what I meant when I posted Pavano's IP/K rate... if you believe Pettitte is gonna have a good game, take yanks. if you think he won't, take the over.

Really? I think Pettite will be solid, not his usual self but solid. Maybe 3 runs through 5 and change. Pavano I think is good for 6 and 3. I think this is like a 4-3 game. Wouldn't be shocked to see 6-4 but I think this line holds a ton of value as I just can't see this total going much higher then 9.

Pavano pitched well against the Yankees last year (did not face them this year), including a solid postseason outing in which he allowed 2 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings while striking out 9.

Also the Yankees 5-9 hitters career against Pavano are 5-28 and Berkman has 3 of those 5 hits.

This lineup is different from last year, Pavano is a different pitcher also.

Pettitte was dreadful in his last two starts.

Pavano was good against the Yankees last year in two regular season starts and a postseason start.

                          Regular season: 13.1 IP, 11 H, 1 BB, 4 R, 8 K
                          playoffs: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 9 K

Pavano is a better pitcher this year.

6 of the 9 hitters are the same. Granderson instead of Damon, Berkman instead of Matsui, Gardner instead of Cabrera. I liked last year's stronger lineup.

I have a feeling that the Twins take this one and the Yanks close it out in NY.

Interesting side note about the total:

NYY TT is at 4.5 (under -115). MIN TT is at 4 (under -108). Yet the game total is getting pretty even odds at 9.

Set up for a classic under.

I like the Yanks & un9 here tonight. The Yanks have the Twins number. Theres probably a chance we're going to see sweeps in all the series.
