Jim Callis: (2:32 PM ET ) Yes. Sounds like the Orioles will try to complete a Bedard trade first, then the Roberts deal may happen. The Orioles may get more for Roberts than the Twins did for Santana.


Phil(Chicago): More for Roberts than Santana!? What is it going to take for the Cubs to get him?

There's a good reason a team might get better prospects for an everyday position player like Roberts than the Twins got for Santana. There are a lot of teams that can afford Roberts' salary -- It was a little more than $4 million last year -- in the present and it's not going to take some megamillions deal to extend him for 4+ years. On the other hand, there are only a few teams that can afford to extend Santana for six years at approximately $25 million per season, according to the rumors.
