Yankees and Rays Deal Aces in Series Finale
Yankees and Rays Deal Aces in Series Finale

The New York Yankss will be MLB money line favorites behind C.C. Sabathia tonight when the AL East leaders close the four-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays close out their important four-game series in the Bronx Thursday evening. The battle on the mound will pit the aces of the two staffs, David Price for the Rays against C.C. Sabathia for the Yankees. It's a rematch from a meeting 10 days ago at Tropicana Field, and if the sequel is anything like the Sept. 13 contest, baseball fans and bettors are in for a treat.

BetJamaica opened its MLB money lines with New York 133 favorites. The total was listed at eight evening, with Bookmaker.com juicing the 'over' at minus 120.

Tampa got into the win column for the first time in the series with a 7-2 victory on Wednesday. The Rays scored in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead and held the lead the rest of the game thanks to three home runs. Tampa Bay was a 125 'dog and the rain-interrupted final score failed to reach the game total of 10½.
The win gave Joe Maddon's bunch a 9-8 lead in the season series with Tampa Bay 4-4 in the Bronx.

New York opened the series with an 8-6 win on Monday as 120 chalk and followed that up with an 8-3 triumph Tuesday with an MLB odds price of minus 140. The two teams will go to the series and regular season finale just 1½ games apart in the AL East standings with the Yanks in the lead. New York is now tied with Minnesota for the top record in the American League.

Neither Price nor Sabathia decisioned in the Sept. 13 match in Florida that opened that three-game series. Both worked eight scoreless innings with Price allowing just three hits to Sabathia's two. Tampa Bay was a 120 favorite in the game and won it 1-0 on Reid Brignac's 11th-inning homer.

Sabathia (22-10, 3.05) will be making his fifth start versus the Rays this season with New York 2-2 in the first four. Three of the assignments have been at Tropicana Field. His lone start in New York against Tampa Bay came on July 16 in a 5-4 Yankees victory as 170 baseball betting favorites. The southpaw allowed three earned runs in seven innings, leaving the game trailing 4-3. New York tallied single runs in the eighth and ninth to grab the win.

Price (21-8, 2.79) is taking on the top-scoring team in the majors for a fourth time in 2010. The Rays are 2-1 in the previous three. The lone loss was here at Yankee Stadium on July 18. Price was a 120 underdog in that one against Andy Pettitte, the game that Pettitte injured his groin and would miss the next two months. Price was charged with seven runs over five innings in the slugfest. New York prevailed, 9-5.

The weather forecast is for a 20 percent chance of rain and a game-time temp in the low-70s. Winds are predicted to be out of the SSE at 7-10 mph (RF corner in towards 3B).

Andy Fletcher completes the umpire rotation for the four-game series with plate duty in the finale. The Memphis native brings a 15-14 edge to the 'under' into the contest, which on the surface appears rather ho-hum. But Fletcher does sport a 7-2 mark to the 'over' when the total is eight or less.

The Yankees will remain at home for the weekend with the Boston Red Sox coming to town. Friday's series opener pits Josh Beckett (10-9, 5.71) against Andy Pettitte (15-4, 2.81). The Rays will head home after this one to host the Mariners at Tropicana Field. Jason Vargas (12-17, 3.75) gets the ball for Seattle in Game 1 opposite Tampa Bay's Randy Niemann (17-10, 4.48).

NOTE: W-L records displayed for starting pitchers are team records in games the pitchers start.

Thanks. I like the Yanks as well, but for a totally absurd reason. As close as these two teams have played all year, I'm banking on a New York win to put the season series at 9-9

I like Tampa +RL. Good game to bet both sides. NY 4-3. My numbers tell me the over, but
it will probably go under. I swore off the Yanks, so no bet for me.
