Mlb should change the rule for the 9th inn. In the 9th on both teams get to bat off a Tee.

Papelbon has been getting worse the last two years, as a red sox fan Ill be glad next year when he's gone and Bard is closing games.

I think Pap needs to learn to throw with some movement on the ball....Sooner or later when you throw straight it goes straight out and that is what has happened the past 2 years to him...Also, it looked like the ump made more bad calls than he did right ones....

The issue is his lack of control -- something happend between 2008 and 09 when he changed.

between 2006-2008 he avergaed about 1.6 BB/9, that last two years its been twice that number at about 3.25/9. Though its hard to pin just what exactly is the difference.

I'm a Red Sox fan! And this team is not working at all! When the pitcher r working ok the fvckig batters can get a hit. Worst bullpen I've ever seen in Boston! I just trust Bard over there. The batters is awful thing. Now with Scutaro having problems just worse ans worse. Boston this year is having just 5 bats fof 9. from 1st to 5th they can hit a little, the last 4 just waste of time!

About the starters, I trust just Bucholtz, Lester is doing bad last few started games.

Papelbon fvck u! U've blown so many games this year! So bad for a Red Sox fan to watch this kind of things.

Do you think it may be the pitching coach....Seems like all the pitchers seem to fade after a few years with them.... But I do know the B+S Umps suck this year...A lot of very bad calls on most games I see...

That's okay....the owners will raise ticket prices next year so all the players, including these great relief pitchers can get raises so that they and their families can survive.

Am I the only one in this thread who had CWS?

Exciting game but they really shouldn't have left Pap out there in the 9th. It was obvious he was lacking control.

As a Red Sox fan, I am getting sick of Papelbon. Only Leo Nunez has more blown saves than Papelbon. It is like watching Ugeth Urbina all over again from the late 90's when he had you always on edge and expecting a blown save every time they came in with a lead in the 9th.

Tonight it is on the manager
papelbon should not have been brought in with 1 out in the eight
he doesn't trust anyone but bard and papelbon and is wearing their arms reminds me of torre managing the yanks
papelbon is still good for one inning but more than 3 outs and he sucks
didn't play the game on either side but watched the game
sox are definitely in free fall mode right now

I would like to see some historical data on save percentage. It honestly seems to get worse each year. And this year has been by far one of the worst in recent memory. About the only guy I am truly comfortable with getting outs 25, 26, and 27 is Riveria. I wonder if there is a site that has historic data like that available. That would be interesting to see. With all these bullpen specialists now days you would think teams would blow fewer leads. It seems like just about every day there is some team that chokes off a 5 or 6 run lead. I must have a selective memory but I can almost swear that teams didn't blow 4 run leads much at all back when I was growing up in the 1980s. Chalk it up to steroids I guess.
