Update: Piazza's agent called Yankees GM Brian Cashman to inquire about the Yankees' signing Piazza as a DH, and the club may have some interest, New York Newsday reports.
Recommendation: "We're fairly set. Our designated hitter spot is taken by Bernie Williams and Andy Phillips. But I'll keep an open mind," Cashman said. "I'm always open to consider any possibility that may help the ballclub." George Steinbrenner has shown a proclivity to sign ex-Mets in the past (David Cone, Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry), so the possibility of seeing Piazza in pinstripes can't be discounted.Comment
