Anyway, Rob Dibble sure looks like an idiot now.
        No it's not.

You can pitch lights out in college and the minors and then get hurt in your first year in the majors and require reconstructive surgery and make the 15 million guaranteed in the contract. Then if you are lucky enough to come back from the major surgery you won't be the same pitcher anymore and you won't get big fat contracts in the future.

        OR

You can play good for 15 years without getting hurt and make 300 milions or more without being a #1 draft pick.

Uh, what does that have to do with what I posted?

By the way, Strasburg may not have even been drafted had he not gone to college. San Diego State was where he became something special and where all the hype started.

So your choice could be "don't go to college, don't get noticed, don't get drafted, don't make majors, don't get any MLB money" or "go to college, get drafted #1, hire greedy agent, get a $15 million deal."

This is so lame, MLB is getting what they deserve though for not changing at all.

I say Kerry Wood over Prior because Kerry Wood had problems with his arm on the tail end of his rookie season, and missed his 2nd year due to Tommy John surgery.

Prior had problems just staying healthy. I don't think it's fair to compare Strasburg's career to his, yet.

A number of decent pitchers have come back after the surgery to put up pretty good numbers...

                              Post Tommy John surgery:

                              Chris Carpenter - 31-9 2.55
                              A.J. Burnett - 79-64 3.95
                              John Smoltz - 56-42 3.28
                              Kerry Wood - 69-62 3.73

                              Strasburg will be alright...

Number of Tommy John surgeries for Prior = 0

Prior Had shoulder issues which are much, much more troublesome, as there is little to no way to fix them -

Most player that have TJ surgery return to their form after about two years, very few actually see the repaired elbow hold them back.

He'll be fine. Billy Wagner, at 38 or so, came back from Tommy John surgery and is doing great and throwing just as hard. Some pitchers come back throwing harder. Imagine that...

This is not a good sign when a pitcher is so young.

Kids these days have this procedure done in college, sometimes even high school

Some parents are asking for their surgeons to perform the surgery due to the myth you pitch harder when you recover from the surgery.

Truth be told as your UCL deteriorates you may not pitch as hard, but after the surgery you could go back to the same strength to before the elbow started to break down and hence why some say you come back stronger.
