Sipkin/NewsThe New York Yankees are 12-0 this
season when A-Rod is out of the lineup.
At least there's no need for Alex Rodriguez
to rush back from the disabled list.
With Sunday's 10-0 shelling of Seattle, a
game Rodriguez sat out with a calf injury,
the Yankees improved to 12-0 this season
in games without A-Rod in the lineup.
Might the All-Star third baseman find
himself in a fight for playing time if they're
still undefeated when he returns from the
disabled list on or after Sept. 5?
"Let's hope we get to that point - and then
I'll put him in there the next day," Joe
Girardi joked before the game.
Girardi added that no tests on Rodriguez's
tight left calf were scheduled as of Sunday,
but he indicated that A-Rod was slated to
travel with the Yanks Sunday night to be
with the team during this week's trip to
Toronto and Chicago.
GM Brian Cashman also said in an email
Sunday night that no tests are scheduled
and "you will see (Rodriguez) in Toronto
and Chicago, as well."
Rodriguez was placed on the DL Saturday
after coming out of Friday's 6-0 loss after
one at-bat because of the same ailment
that had sidelined him the previous three
games.
"It wasn't like we did this on a whim. We
consulted, we had him work out, we had
him do things," Girardi said. "The one thing
