Another thing about baseball that lacks common sense: defensive indifference

I've made posts before about the stupidity of the concept of the 'closer', etc.

Why is a team ever indifferent about a stolen base? I don't care what the score is, letting the runner advance from 1st to 2nd is ridiculous. You miss the opportunity for a forced out and just move the runner closer to home.
Wtf? Why is it okay to let him take 2nd but not let him steal 3rd and home too?
